D3D9 Trouble

Post by 0p0d »

Hello, i use the D3D9 renderer from the latest 227 patch. Everything ran smoothly until i opened Unreal and it randomly gave me a critical error message :( I didnt make any changes to the advanced options, it just went KAPUT.

Here's the Error message:

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. Before this happened the sprites in Unreal decided to freeze, it didnt bother me much but any ideas on why this happened would be nice. The game worked fine except that fire, water, dispersion pistol shots wouldn't move like they are suppose to.

How old is your graphics card? Try to upgrade your drivers.

Also try disabling DEP:
System properties -> Advanced -> Performance -> Settings -> DEP

Talk to me about doing this on MSN, because I have no idea what the DEP settings do..

Is DEP something that might help the frozen effects? my unreal decided to start working again by the way lol. When i go to DEP it says it only have a "select programs you dont want using it" it says that DEP protects against viruses?

My video card isn't very old its a Radeon 2900 HD 512MB 516-bit pci express x16 and it has the latest drivers available for it.

bleh, should i upload a video of what im talking about when i say "frozen effects"?

Going to try the DEP now

The graphics card itself is rarely the problem, usually it's the drivers or application error. I think I know what you mean by "frozen" effect, try using software renderer.
it says that DEP protects against viruses
Oh and that's bullshit. Microsoft loves to bullshit.

Tried using the software renderer, effects are still frozen plus a bunch of textures appear all distorted(probably because they are S3TC) :/

For awhile after i did turned the DEP off for Unreal my effects were working again, I'm playing at the moment and they are frozen again -_- idk what to do. :/

Are you using UT's S3TC textures? not sure if that has anything to do with it at all.. but UTs versions don't work very well if at all on U1

edit:

the only "frozen" effects I know of is with fire textures. It's some weird bug with rendering multiple.
If meshes aren't animating.. that's pretty weird.

With windows you never know...

Try uninstalling Unreal, purging the folder completely, and installing it again, without any patching. See if it works.
If it does, patch to 227. See if it works.
If it does, do other stuff you did (put S3TC textures - not UT ones, etc). See if it works.

If at fails at some point, tell us where it failed at.

Unreal without any patching didnt work
patched with official 226 patch it started up but didnt change the frozen effects
installed 227f all is working fine except the frozen effects.

The S3TC textures i use i got from this site: http://www.celticwarriors.net/Website/Downloads/Textures/Unreal/S3TC/S3TCTextures.htm

I did install the S3TC textures from the UT 2 cd, if i need to remove those i know how to do it, just let me know if i should.

Here is a video of the frozen effects in-game: http://www.filedropper.com/unreal-frozen

I think you should remove everything from UT CD that you put into Unreal's folder. Dunno how does it actually even work...

grab your unreal CD and copy the contents of it's texture folder into your unreal's texture folder & overwrite except for uwindowfonts.utx, then install the s3tc textures you downloaded from celtic warriors and you'll have a known working s3tc set
