Unreal is running too sl....FAST!

Post by Skyfrog »

I installed Unreal, the 2.26 update, the S3TC textures and finally the OMP patch. The game looks beautiful but it's quite unplayable. My frame rate is over 300 frames per second and the sound is totally messed up. I tried OpenAL, FMOD and Galaxy and they all do the same thing. It sounds like a tape recorder being fast forwarded. I'm guessing this is also being caused by the game running too fast. Everything is moving at high speed and when I fire my dispersion pistol it streaks across the map and sounds like a balloon popping when it hits something. Is there any way to slow this thing down? When I played it under UT with the oldskook mod this did not happen.

Edit: I posted this earlier and then couldn't find it. I thought I must have hit preview instead of reply so I posted it again. Then I discovered I had actually posted the original in the wrong section. Sorry about the double post, you can delete the other one if you want.

1. Go to advanced options, OpenGl, Set refreshrate= to a good refreshrate your monitor supports at the resolution you use.

2. Go to Windows display properties and enable Vertical Sync.

I've been having a similar problem, just in addition to the insanely fast speed, it frequently and randomly SLOOOWS down... not jumpy or choppy, just slow. MOBs move/react slower as do I. Even happens during the intro flyby...even if the actual camera movement is difficult to detect, the sky is very noticably changing tempo. I'ver tried setting the framerate to 85 or even 60, but not only does it seem to have no effect but the speed changes continue

try the cpuspeed command....but i currently have the slight idea this might happen because of:

1: Notebooks (manage the CPU due Powermanagement and heat)
2: AMD's Cool'n'Quit feature (which affects the CPU speed as well)

Please note your TechSpecs here.

I'm using a Gateway 7510GX
AMD Athalon 64 3700+
~3.4GHz
1gig ram
~90gigHD
ATI Mobility Radeon X600 graphics card

as a side note, I have noticed that the reading for cpu speed changes every now and the while I check system properties

confirms my guess, try and disable cool&quiet in bios, and check again.

How do I go about doing that... I havent done much messing around with BIOS settings before and I'm the slightest bit leery of doing so. Any help about making those changes is appreciated.

Thanks again for the advice.

aint that easy because there are many different bios'ses out there- when the computer starts press del (or few bios use F2 instead) to enter the bios. It should appear in the most cases blue (again some use grey f.e.). You can navigate with the cursor buttons. The feature you are looking for is probably in chipset feature setup or advanced feature setup (could be in Powermanagemant too however). Watch out for Cool & Quiet. In most cases the value can be changed with "Enter" -i f not its probably described in some help text at the bottom of the window how to change it. Once done Press F10 which calls the dialog window "Save and Exit" - Press "Y" and Enter. If F10 doesnt work you have to seek for "Save and Exit" in the bios and chose it from there, but haven't seen a bios for years in which it doesnt work (aside some very few notebook bios). Note that if you use some kind of "non English" keyboard layout such as german keyboards the "Y" is hidden below the "Z", because these two keys are switched in the english and german layout.
