Firewall - Port Filters

Post by Boro_Boy_Killer »

Great site, excellent selection of maps!!

been playing Unreal on and off since 98, only really started playing online towards end of 2002 (new PC!!)

Got broadband and a ADSL router recently and am having trouble setting up port filter to allow play through firewall. I have had a good trawl through the forum to see if this has been covered before but cannot find any info. Only info I could find was from TCP_wolf about UDP ports 7777 and 7778 outbound, but will not query master server, any ideas?

Using v226 with openGL patch.

Thanks

Hi Boro_Boy,

ports 7777 and 7778 have to be open for the gameplay
but to querry the Master Server you also need
ports 27900.

I still have problems with the portmapping for a server.
I opened ports 7777-7781 and 27900 tcp and udp.
When a player tries to connect I get a udp recfrom error.
Until I find a solution I have to put it into DMZ and don't
really like it that way :(.
Any ideas?

Thx for reply GReNADE,

I now have ports 7777 and 7778 UDP outbound only set up for gameplay.

tried various different settings for 27900, UDP, TCP outbound only and out and in set, but always fails when querying master server. Any ideas?

Thanks

Ok, I took a look at epicgames and they say the following:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
People setting up Unreal servers behind firewalls have been asking for a summary of the TCP/IP ports Unreal uses. Here goes:

UDP 7775 and 7776 are used only for LAN games. You don't need to route them through a firewall.
UDP 7777 is for gameplay.
UDP 7778 is for server querying.
UDP 7779+ are allocated dynamically for each helper UdpLink objects, including UdpServerUplink objects.
UDP 27900 is for server querying, if you enable the master server uplink. Some master servers use other ports, like 27500.
When players try to connect to an Unreal server, they connect to port 7777 by default.

Optionally, the server administrator can specify a different game port than 7777 with the "port=" command line parameter, for example: "Unreal.exe -server port=8888". In this case, contiguous port numbers are used for helper objects: 8888 for gameplay, 8889 for querying, 8890 for helper UdpLink objects, etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope, it'll help you more. Maybe you only need port 27500, too. But remember every port has to be opened for tcp and udp.

Thx again GReNADE,

unfortunately still couldnt manage to query master server. Decided to do a little digging, checked various ini files including Unreal.ini and found a starting point.

Have now managed to find full list, so here goes for anyone else with same prob!!

28900 TCP outbound for server query
7777-7778 UDP outbound
2250 UDP out
6667 UDP out
7667 UDP out
7768-8001 UDP out
8890 UDP out
8889 UDP out

Filtering these ports will allow you to query master server and full server list in Unreal V226f.

Got there in the end, lol. now its time to play

Cheers

Hey, I'm glad, you finally got it - although not through my
help :-)
So, as you are able to play, now, feel welcome to
join my own little server:

"The only Serpentine Server"

Hope to see you there someday ;),
