Unreal Running to fast..................

Post by IamMe »

Hi, Since upgrading my PC, Unreal runs to fast. I don't mean in a FPS kind of way, But I mean that my player moves around faster than he should, my fireing rate is faster, it is kind of like I am in fast forward mode :). Some people used to get a similar thing in Quake, but there was a command there to make things normal again. Does anyone know how to fix this?

P4 2.4GHZ
512MB DDR PC2100 RAM
ASUS Geforce4 ti4600 Ultra Deluxe 128MB
Nothing is overclocked

Also I have had a mouse "Lag" problem for sometime, which I fixed pretty well by turning on vsinc and turning off detailed textures in the advanced options, but would prefer to have these to settings the other way if possible, especially the detailed textures. So if anyone knows how to get rid of the mouse lag by other means, this would also be greatly appreciated. But of course if I can't fix the running to fast problem then I guess a fix for the mouse lag will not be any use to me, 'cause I'll have to give Unreal a miss :(

Thanks

if your playing offline, try the command "slomo 1". that sets the game to default speed. if thats still too fast, type something like "slomo .9" (90% normal gamespeed). change the speed this way until you get a value that suits you.

That would be the same as changing "Game Speed" in the menus, would it not?  Like UT has, haven't got Unreal installed at the moment because of the problem, but I think it has the Game Speed thing available in the menus somewhere. If so, yeah I have thought of that. But I'll never know when it is at the speed that it is supposed to be. Would really like to know why it has changed.
Thanx, I'll probably have to do that, after I have exhausted all other avenues, which at the moment, looks like now :)
Thanx again

its very long ago i read about this problem; maybe unreal is recognizing ur gamespeed wrong:

CPUSPEED=#: Identify your CPU speed, useful for machines which don't autodetect their speed properly. For example, CPUSPEED=266.

maybe it helps.

Thanx, I'll be installing Unreal as soon as I get off line, and trying out those 2 suggestions.

Well I tried the slomo thing, but that had no effect at all. I trie turning the gamespeed down via the menu, that had no effect. I tried the CPUSPEED=xxx thing, I asume I was meant to type that in at the console?. Thats what I did and it said "unrecognised command" or something similar.

At times it just gets to fast, so fast that it is uncontrolable/unplayable. In places which have minimal brushwork/eyecandy, where you would expect to have a greater framerate, you can really notice it speed up there, movement can become to fast.

Oh well, looks like the end of Unreal for me, time to move along.

Thanks Anyways

Actually CPUSPEED=xxx is supposed to go into the command line!:)
If you don't know how to use command lines with shortcuts or DOS then you can type this on the console to restart the game with a commandline!
Press tab & type Relaunch CPUSPEED=xxx & that should work!

Damn!!!
I just uninstalled it again, and packed it away.
I know how to use the command line thing, so I guess I'll have to get Unreal out AGAIN, install it, and give that a try. Fingers crossed.
Thanks

Tried it, what I get is
"Critical error could not enter CPUSPEED=2400
Could not find file CPUSPEED=2400"
Or something very similar

Try using the custom OpenGL Patch 2.1.0.5 (which I recammend for nVidia cards).  After installing that Unreal renderer for v224/v226 ....go to in Control Panel>Display>Advanced>Additional Properties

Set OpenGL Vsync to Off by default and Apply. For Laptops one should leave OpenGL Vsyn to "On By Default" due to laptop LCD limitations.

With that all setup like that the speed problem might be gone. I know one of my PC's was fixed from the "too fast" speed issue.

I know what's happening there, it thinks your giving it a map name, try it like this instead (just tested on my comp) Relaunch INI=Unreal.ini CPUSPEED=2400

Well, the problem seems to have something to do with VSync, and turning it off cures the "running to fast" problem. But, brings in another problem, which I mentioned above in my initial post. I have Vsync turned on, to help correct a mouse lag problem. With VSync on, the mouse functions perfectly, turn it off, and I get a little mouse lag. But I guess it's not that bad, at least I can play Unreal with the mouse lag, I couldn't play it with the speed problem. The mouse lag is just a bit annoying, but tolerable. Can't win'em all I guess :)
Much thanks to everyone who helped out.
