New UT OpenGLdrv.dll file to be ported to Unreal1?

Post by EagleEye »

At http://unreal.epicgames.com there is a new official release of the OpenGLdrv.dll file for UnrealTournament, and the source code was publicly released with it, which is all dated September 6, 2002. I would just like to ask those here who made the first ported OpenGL driver for Unreal1 if they plan on porting the updated version, and approximately how long it may take.

As for what was updated in the driver itsself, it seems to have a significant speed boost over the previous release.

Any feedback would be appreciated, and what better to release around the time of that S3TC texture converter than a newer OpenGL driver aswell! ;D

ok, ported it, but performance is exactly the same; will have a deeper look into it to check what the improvements are and if they are useable in unreal -> so if there is any need i'll upload a new version ;)

Tried the new S3TC textures for Unreal and the game would start pausing after a wail. Tried UT with S3TC textures with the same problem. Installed the new fixed renderer for UT and the game ran great. So what ever was fixed solved the problems I was having with slow downs. Thought it was ATI's drivers all this time but it wasn't after all. I think the renderer is a must have for ATI owners.

It's great to know you've successfully ported the driver so quickly. :)

Well, I tested the new opengl driver in UT and there's a definite performance increase with my Kyro2, especially when I use the S3TC textures.  I used to have a studdering problem, just like what WimpMiester talked about with his Radeon, but now it's as smooth as ever!

I think thats a pretty good reason to release the Unreal1 ported version.:)

My guess is that the studdering bug in the last opengl.dll version only affected radeons and kyros, and not geforces, which may explain why you don't have a performance difference.

Finally finished testing the new 224 and 226 patch and both work fine. I am getting some pausing but I played UT again and it's doing it to. Must be ATI's new drivers.

I was wondering why a 225 version of the OpenGl driver and patch was not created??

I was looking forward to a speeded up version of Unreal that renders better than my current Direct 3D drivers.... The standard OpenGL driver that comes with my ver 225 is slower than my D3D renderer on my machine. I am looking for anything to improve my performance....

I will help test if that is what it takes!!!
