Crash Message from Rtn to Napli

Post by Laureen Sturgess »

Hello all my unreal buddies.... I need some help. My husband is playing the game, Return to Napli, and we are running Unreal Gold. He is trying to save a map called 'Taridyium Foundery' and gets this error message. Please note that it is only on this map, and not any others.

Here is the message:

Hi
I’m sorry no one has answered your query. Technical issues require *serious* personnel - and those folks have better thing$ to do it would seem. I do NOT have your answer (per se) -but- I have a work around (perhaps) assuming only your Foundry is corrupt . I did your *Foundry* in RTNP to see just *what* was the next level you need to enter. The Foundry is a two map scenario (not one of my favorites). Spent over an hour getting through it!!! The NEXT consecutive map is *Glacena* So - open Windows Explorer open your drive that has the directory Napali click on Maps click on Upak DOUBLE CLICK on Glacena and when the game starts SAVE it. Let your game continue from there and you will be able to complete the “RTNP” game. That is IF just the Foundry maps are corrupt. Other than that ?! Sorry - can’t help - might uninstall the game and reinstalling it.
Best Wishes,
Flap...

:o Hello Flapjax,

I am so excited that someone FINALLY answered my post! *dancing like snoopy*

I've hear two other theories. #1: Increase your Cache to an unspeakable amount*didn't work* #2: Reinstall that map, as it may be corrupt*did it, hubby hasn't played RTNP yet to test*

And finally you gave me a work around. I'm a little confused but I am sure that when I delve into it, it will all become clear.

Thanks again!

*kisses and hugs* hehe......... ;D

I just hit this error today, and since I'm using the OUTSTANDING walkthroughs on this site to make it through, I visited these forums looking for help and saw that I was not alone.

Well, I was hoping that there was a cleaner answer than the one provided by Flapjax, so I kept looking. On the forums at the official Unreal site, there was a post about the same problem with a reply that directed the player to a site run by Commander Dimwitty. The fix he provides is:

1. Go to the Unreal Gold install directory
2. Open the System folder
3. Double-click on the Unreal.ini folder to open it in Notepad
4. Find the entry that says MaxPlayers=16. It's quite a way down, so you may want to choose Find from the Edit menu and search for MaxPlayers
5. Change the number from 16 to 32, save, and exit

This worked for me, but later on I got the same message. Not knowing for sure what was a valid number, I doubled it again to 64, which worked.

I'm not sure what effect this setting has on performance or stability, or what the max number allowed is, but this info should at least get you going again.
