Unreal & XP

Post by Xylander »

Hallo!

I just installed Unreal and NaPali on XP. I used the newest patches.... Unreal226Final for Unreal and unrealRTNPpatch for NaPali. Should be 226 too, right?
Well, Return to NaPali runs nice but Unreal don't :( The graphic is stuttering the whole time. Never had those problem with win98.... Isn't the Direct3D Support in those 2 Patches the same?
And far more important: Is there a way to make Unreal running good with XP? :)

Greetings,

Hi,....I have Unreal on WinXP, using Direct3D. The graphics run fine, but does your sound crackle up alot. I read in the readme that this happens under WinNT and as far as I know WinXP is a version of NT. Does anyone know if there is no way to get the sound working in Unreal and XP or have I a unique case?

MySystem:
AthlonXP 1900+
512MB DDR Ram
Geforce4 MX440
Soundblaster Live 5.1

Thanks for any help

ps-what kinda graphics crap are you gettin' cause the graphics sucked on mine too till I fiddled with the resolution and switched about with the renderer.

for the grafix problem: no they don't use the same version, the version of u-gold / napali 226b is a lil bit reworked, but u can use the ugold one for unreal too, copy the d3drv.dll into ur unreal dir. ;) - or forget d3d and use opengl ....

for the sound problem, it helps often to disable direct sound in advanced options.

Hallo!

To copy the .dll-File into Unreal's Folder worked for me. Thx 4 the hint :)
I'm now running Unreal with Direct3D on a GF2GTS with the 23.11-Drivers.

Tried OpenGL but couldn't get Unreal running with this (haven't tried with the NaPali-Drivers though).

I have no sound-problems at all. I have a SB128 and i use the drivers that are auto-installed with XP.

If someone is interested in it: I meanwhile figured out i can join Unreal-Online-Games with NaPali when i copy the DM-maps into the NaPali/Maps-Folder. But Single-Player-Maps don't work. NaPali crashes if you try to join a co-op game.

But no need anymore for that. Unreal is running fine now. Thx again 4 the info ;)

Hi I have a p4 1,7 ghz with a geforc 3 ti200 and 256 mb ram. I play unreal with 1280*1024 in opengl and it works fine(with the patch of course)however the framerate isnt exactly perfect. I play with the suggested opengl settings. If I want better framerates what should I lower or remove?

I've got winXP and I had the crackly sound problem with Gold and UT. And as weird as it sounds, changing the latentcy from 40 to 60 fixes it. Hope this helps!

sebastian what do u mean with exactly perfect ?

you should realize that anything above 30 fps (lowest) is more then enough - if u have more fps use it for better eyecandy - what do u need the fps for ? it makes no differ, its isn't more beautiful, it isn't changing the game , fps are useless if u only use 'em to be displayed in the left upper corner. Thats one thing many people should realize, somehow the whole fps story reminds me some men comparing their p****s length...u know what i mean (i hope u know)

Yeah sure I know what you mean, but I believe my fps are lower than 30. Its often a bit choppy, not as smooth as I would wish. So what should I try changing first? :(
