Re: Reverend's thunder demo
it seems to be that reverend's thunder demo is a pack or edition for UT did I?? I haven't found anything about this except a post on one of unreal forums with similar question but it hasn't got answer yet. :-/
It seems that reverend's thunder demo is dead.

Re: Reverend's thunder demo
I am looking for thunder.dem file, for benchmarking. I recently put together a retro rig (P3 1400, Voodoo5) and I wanna compare it to other systems from that era.
Weird thing is with latest driver updates Opengl is even faster than Glide in UT & Unreal

I'm not recomend to use glide for unreal. It's bugged and it's got a effect worse than standard direct3d support. I tryed this on computer of my friend (cause i've don't have voodo graphic card) and i say for Glide again:NO!
Use utpatch451 - it's the best resolution and you will find help in any problems if they catch your ut not like with this thing in this topic.

Re: Reverend's thunder demo
I grew up with voodoo cards and Glide is not the problem if you got a voodoo card, its the unofficial drivers for them (on windows xp).
UT and Unreal used to work best with glide thats why i was suprised to find out that it runs faster in Opengl even on a Voodoo card

Re: Reverend's thunder demo
I don't know what computer your friend has, but in my experience glide always outperformed d3d or opengl hands down, glide always had the better rendering, better optimization and alot better graphics, even d3d9 today couldn't rival the visuals of glide on a voodoo card.I'm not recomend to use glide for unreal. For me only recently 227 got close to the quality of glide, with its excellent d3d9 renderer.

Re: Reverend's thunder demo
I just did some benchmarks for you in Unreal Tournament with Glide, Opengl and Direct3d. UT is patched to 451b. Opengl renderer is updated to the latest version (37 i think) and Glide renderer is the the one posted by medor// thanks btw. Direct3d renderer is the one came with the 451b patch. Newer ones seem to be incompatible with voodoo cards i think.
Test bed: P!!!-s @ 1522, 512mb sdram @ 145, and a Voodoo 5 pci @ stock
OS and driver: Windows XP, Amigamerlin 3.1 r11
Benchmark: UTbench @ 1024x768 16bit, sound off.
Min desired fps set to 999 and cachemem set to 64.
Renderer min / max / avg
Direct3d 42.96 86.36 66.53
Opengl 36.97 79.43 56.49
Glide 44.95 86.03 65.25
WickedGL* 41.62 89.70 67.37
Direct3d seems fast but looks really bad IQ wise. Glide is the fastest renderer here if you exclude wickedgl* which is exclusive to 3dfx cards.
Although Glide is the fastest I use opengl for everyday use. That way i can use 32bit rendering and s3tc textures
Please don't compare this figures with modern cards, all I want to say and prove is back in the day UT was released Glide was the way to play it.

Re: Reverend's thunder demo
UT is patched to 451b is only for servers you must stay in 436.
You can try to d3d9.
If you whant be more perfect you must use the same setting for all render in UT.ini.
You can take for all
[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
[D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]
[SglDrv.SglRenderDevice]
[MetalDrv.MetalRenderDevice]
[GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice]
[SoftDrv.SoftwareRenderDevice]

Re: Reverend's thunder demo
I found the thunder demo there totally by chance. I was looking for something else. I guess that site is not included in google search.
