UT 99 Cache

UT now belongs to the "old" Unreal as well. Supporting it for OpenGL and Sound its time to put up a board now.

UT 99 Cache

Post by Oldsparky »

The unreal tournament cache folder seems to be capped at a capacity of 901MB. Is there a fix to increase this?

:o Why the heck would you need a cache that large? Even if you logged on every single server you would barely get that... Well maybe no, but just install bigger mods and you won't need that big cache? You could also store cache in 2 folders, but that might be tricky...

Some of the Newbiesplayground Unreal servers run over 2000 unreal maps with a supercache size of 7gb.  Both of our main DM type servers have about 2700+ maps installed on them. We have hopes of  hosting all the Unreal 1 maps on UT.  The cache files already exist and are available for download but UT can't handle the load in the cache folder.  We are experimenting now on line with a UT server, Newbiesplayground UT unreal style on UT99.  It is being hosted by TNN our host for our other three servers.  Uteam10F makes this possible with the addition of TCP Wolf's flexmaps.  This test server is King of the Hill as our main Unreal server has been for almost 10 years now.  We are experiencing some problems with the U1 skins at this point but Mr. Wolf is looking into what I may have done.  We also have tested Uteams Monster Mash and that runs quite well.  Don't think anyone else is using KOTH on UT99.  We presently are limited to a couple hundred maps and we would like to increase that, thus bigger cache capabilities would be nice.

My Unreal cache is a few gigs in size, and I suppose my UT cache would be as well if it wasn't capped. Interestingly enough I didn't know about that cap either.

I suppse you could write protect the files from the super cache to disable deletion, but the question pops up what happens to any newly downloaded files then... would they be deleted again immediately...?

I have never known UT Cache to be limited. I have had a cache folder of over 5 gig
last month I started a new cache folder to check my redirect was working OK. It was and i downloaded 1.8 gig from it and the Cache folder still has it all in it
As for settings for a Cache folder I don't Know any and have never use any

only thing I chance in the ut ini file about Cache is “PurgeCacheDays=0” so the Cache is never deleted Just wished more players did the purge cache bit

Thank you for the replies.  I think the only thing I may be doing different is to copy and paste in the cache files, without them showing on the cache text file.  I wonder If thats the clue.

I miss a big thing in caches. Why the heck UT and U put all files in one folder? It'd be much easier if all files would be placed in a folder per server, so you know from where that thing came from.

What if many servers reference one file (NexGen108 or ASC760 for ex)? Fail [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

I guess you would have to wait a few months before any servers are gonna reference that file... :o

Latest Nexgen Server Controller, version 1.06 was released publically on Saturday, May 14, 2008.

I doubt that Defrost would make version 1.08 avaliable for hosts, even in beta stage, when the 1.07 version isn't even public yet lol :D

Doesn't need to be different folders. Unreal handle cache with a simple ini file that stores what each cache file is, why not put some subheadings in that ini file so the cache associations are a bit easier to organize?

Why not create your own program that sorts stuff, modifies paths and moves files from caches automatically? Or a native addition to UT.

Has been done for UT2k4....

I do not know if this works for UT / u227, use at own risk.

Since the author (Coco) is in my clan and active, you might try and politely ask him to port it to other Unreal Engine games.
