UT is empty

I got the old UT yesterday and the online is empty... like a ghost town is it just unreal being empty or is there something wrong with my online?

To tell you the truth, it looks like Unreal 1 has a more active community now than UT99.

I guess everyone flocked to UT2004 and UT3.

What a sad moment of possible truth.... hi.

Make sure you are patched to latest version or 426 I think.Also make sure your firewall is allowing permissions.There are many servers and quite a few playing.Alot more than unreal 1.

The latest version is 436, there's also a ver 451 but that's mostly for servers (it can cause weird mis-haps on a client)

If you can't patch then resort to the 436nodelta patch, that does not have any CD checks and it's mostly for OEM (bundled with soundcard\3dcard products).

Yeah 436 that's it.You can tell I play ut alot.Actually, not at all aside from the unreal badlands mod once in a blue moon.Gotta love old western weps.

Actually I think Ut99 needs a server list or something. And more servers with no mutators or mods and with custom maps, as even if no mods might be less fun for someone, that setup would be good for everyone.
Oh, and if it was possible to let Ut99 players play on U1 servers... It's almost the same game, hey

not gonna happen, unreal and ut are the same engine, only the netcode component is completely different.
just as likely as having world of warcraft players joining unreal.

Just like I wanted to say, A That's why it is hardly possible to join them as it takes a long time to download all the mods and other things.
Turbo, I know, that's backwards compatibility anyway so it won't work

That is the biggest problem with the state of UT, Unreal, and old games in general.  When a game gets to a certain age, there are no or almost no servers running the stock/standard game any more.  The only active servers left are all running crazy maps and mods or have fifty-billion package downloads where it takes forever to join the game, and when you finally do join, you don't know what the hell is going on because you don't recognize anything from your offline play.

I just recently experienced that with UT and Unreal myself when I installed both games for the first time and joined a few online games (or tried to).

There need to be more or at least some servers running the standard game so that new players can join easily and know what to expect.

There are serevrs like that, only you need to look good. And wtf, UT not having a server list? Are you joking? There are much more players than in Unreal.

Yea, UT actually has servers, the MasterServ is up too. And there are or were Frag Fridays, but my internet is too slow to do anything online :-/ But there are more servers than the ServList displays, why aren't they in the list? And is OldUnreal's servers there?

Depends if some servers are in gametype/total conversion, some have standalone master server, or a part of it.
