Hi dunno if im postin in the right part here sorry if i am

im just wondering if you could help me i been playin ut since it first came out
and have never had a prob before
but i just bought a new computer specs are

Dell Dimension DIME521
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 x2 dual core processor 5000+
Memory 2046MB
Radeon X1300 pro series
windows vista
im still a noob on what goes on in a puter lol

but my problem is i can only play UT in softwear rendering it plays good but i want me eye candy lol
everytime i try to play in D3D or opengl the game looks wonderful but it sorta runs in slowmotion then goes fast its like playin UT in low grav but real slow ive never had this problem ive got UT2k4 installed on me puter and that runs wonderful and not a problem
so if you could help me i would be very grateful thanx

i spoke to soon it worked great for a lil bit then started doin the same thing again

ill try uninstallin ut then redoin it and see it it hold this time lol

Dual Core CPU's have this problem often. Go here and try the steps they mention. Dell has alot of issues from a program called "speed step". Here's a link that hopefully will fix your problem.

*Note* They mention laptop in the described fix but I'm guessing that's a typo cause there are two sections, one for laptop and one for desktops. The desktop explanation refers to laptop in it's explanation but the program is included in both laptops and desktops. Hope that fixes it for ya.  :)

I've been having a similar problem, just in addition to the insanely fast speed, it frequently and randomly SLOOOWS down... not jumpy or choppy, just slow. MOBs move/react slower as do I. Even happens during the intro flyby...even if the actual camera movement is difficult to detect, the sky is very noticably changing tempo. I'ver tried setting the framerate to 85 or even 60, but not only does it seem to have no effect but the speed changes continue

ok i found this while i was nosein about in your forum

so i turned off cool and quiet and now UT runs fine upto now still testin it

im now wondering if turning this off will make my puter overheat and blowup or somethin lol

so will it be ok or not should i turn it back on???

yap. This feature will step down the cpu speed when the power isnt needed to keep the cpu cool, and the fan speed low- thus: cool & quiet.
Removing or disabling this feature simple will shut this off. Won't affect your computer at all beside this.
