Sorry to disappoint, but this may never happen, due to the original source losing his copies in a horrible flood.

He said that the CD's were in boxes and it was too much effort to unpack them due to moving, then they had water damage, then he managed to copy 1 song (Isotoxin Alpha) and now the CD's are beyond repair and even his CD drive cannot read any of them. :(

We have this thing called, "watertight"... You see, if you pack things in secure storage devices that are watertight and still inexpensive, you can protect alot of stuff from environmental damage.

I seriously would be amazed if people are that careless to not preserve their legacy data, in the most secure storage devices that could ever be produced...

Hell you might as well go get "Spacebags" and stuff all your CD's into it.

But who would have predicted a flood?
But like I've said, there must be other copies of it on this planet.

Just because you can't predict a flood, doesn't mean you can't be safe rather than sorry.

I agree. Epic have backups, but they're too lazy/retarded/whatever about it to get them for us and they come up with every excuse in the book to not find them.."No webspace to put them, legal issues (which leads onto the whole "contract" bs), we can't find them, they don't exist, harddrive crashes..."

This is why corporatism, lawyers, and the such is\are completely retarded.

Something this old being protected so vigorously even though it could make no difference in terms of "market competition" (see open source software..), just cries out idiocy...

iD software even released QTEST1 to the public, which is the pre-beta demo of Quake 1, containing alot of usable data (with a bit of hacking of course, but the sounds are usable obviously), and of course they also released the source to Quake engine 1, 2 and 3 under the GPL... So why hasn't Epic followed suit?

Because they want money, money is power, and power corrupts absolutely.

I think Epic is just paranoid about its copyrights. I mean, there were three Doom betas leaked before the game was released, and iD let them stay on FTPs after the game came out.

Oh, but Epic did the exact same thing - they let the leaked Betas be.

Huh just read through this, quite sad. Unreal II was a decent game campaign wise. XMP stuff looked fun but no networking means no one to bash. lol

Sad this never happened.
