Unstable Unreal II

Post by Trydi »

Hi.

I'm playing Unreal II third time. The problem is whole game - it's unstable when i load/save game or only playnig. Game hang up or quit to Windows (yes, i've switched from Linux to Windows for some reason and i've said good bay Linux). And it's not problem of only my machine - on other computer game was unstable from time to time too. And i can't install patch - i don't know why, installer said that i don't have UII installed :o Any tips for better game stability?

EDIT:

Maybe changing game compatibility to compatibility with Windows 98 do something?

That's the normal behaviour of U2 as far as I ever experienced it.

This is why we:

A: Don't rush production of a game development project.
B: Do not use API's that will\have become deprecated in favour of something else.
C: Waste money on said project if A and B occur.

Don't tell me - you're using Windows 7 or Vista. If so, there's a fix for that.: http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=186714&page=4

I have never experienced crashes in Unreal II, save for the DirectMusic crashes that I just mentioned that were, in fact, created by Microsoft. So those who are saying that it's the normal state, and especially by blaming Legend, are absolutely wrong. They didn't know that DirectMusic would ever deemed 'deprecated', too.

No - i don't have Vista or 7 - i bought XP month ago.

This crash are not always, but they are. But if i have this crash on two machines and Hellkeeper on his machine... so this crash are something 'normal'.

Well then, give me the crash message and the game log and I'll see what's wrong.

I wouldn't be blaming Legend as much as I'd blame Microsoft for "deprecating" DirectMusic after it's successful prototype usage in LithTech games like
Blood 2: The Chosen, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, Aliens vs. Predator 2, etc.

And I also blame the publisher, Atari for pushing Legend against a BS deadline, when they could of had more time to polish Unreal 2 and make it the way it really should of been.

Microsoft had no reason to deprecate DirectMusic, it was a good API if not a awkward one, Legend would of avoided this if they either, used tracked music, or thought of their own sequenced music format to use.

Yeap, that is true. Who in M$ actually thought that breaking compatibility by including broken DLLs was a good idea?..

UII does suffer from multicore problems too as far as I know. If using AMD I'd suggest AMD's DualCore Optimizer or set affinity to one core.

For Intel there is some M$ hotfix for it iirc.
