Pitbull do the maps have to be realistic, or can they look all weird?

Re: Map Styles
Im not answering for Pitbull only for myself. Mapping in Unreal is alot like being an artist, the editor is your canvas. There is no right or wrong way to map. You will never please everyone with your work. Create what you want to create, what is inside your head. I for one try to look at all maps. Even the worst map may contain that one idea the author stuck in that may get another mappers attention. I run out of ideas after awhile so I'll look to other maps for some inspiration. If its a weird idea in your head, build it! Someone will be inspired by your work.
I would love to see some of the maps sitting on peoples hard drives that were never finished or thought that it was weird or not up to what their buddies may say it should be. I'll bet theres alot of good stuff out there no one will ever see and thats to bad. :(
I thought my last map DMSMURFY was gonna be laughed off the site, but it turned out Flapjack enjoyed it. So you never know!!!

Re: Map Styles
ARTIST is the word Jurz !!! The UnrealEd is one hell of a canvas; 3D. It is *interactive* art we are creating no small feat. The only real thing to consider, if you are making maps for OTHERS to play, is
does it work
i.e. is the user going to obtain a sense of this world aesthetically, is it going to be intuitive, is it going to be challenging, is he/she going to have options during combat (I always like an quick exit LOL the coward factor), does it put the player in a position where they feel like they are evenly matched with access to resources and map inclusions (structures) ? All ideas are welcome. Thats the beauty of our online connection. I love my maps but I have been in awe of so so many you folks have developed
I am richer for that. EmperorStalwartUK I have just finished your review for DMRevenge and YOUR IDEAS are superb !!! Have some suggestions (not my normal review response) and will send them on to you. THEY ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS nothing more. The best advise I can give you, from what I have seen, is TRUST your instincts !!!
