It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!

I modified the nipples so they are harder to notice. They almost blend in with the chest pattern, which is how the original skin was. Any better?

Good work on the skins, again :)

I think it's definitely a significant stepping stone that nipples have now been added to Unreal.

I think it's definitely a significant stepping stone that nipples have now been added to Unreal.
Technically they were already there, but evidently it's a huge deal that I made them more visible.   ;D

Not banging on your work at all but nipples are all I can see now on them. Tone them down *way* more is my vote. No one saw them before, they shouldn't see them now. It's just...weird.

Just kidding.  Who ever thought more prominent nipples would cause such an uproar?  Maybe I should add a nose to the Krall skin and start a riot at Old Unreal.   ;D

Anyway, I have reduced the opacity of the nipples to the point that they look like just another spot on the chest now.  Heck, the original skin has a more obvious nipple than this version does (although, for some reason only one nipple is evident in the original skin, and I am not about to duplicate that)  Just compare it to the original below!

The symbol on the Ice skaarj's chest looks like it's carved in. Think it would be better if it looks more like the painted on look of the original.
I hate it when people ask me what my favorite game is. Just try to explain you're not talking about Unreal Tournament ::).

He's probably talking about how in the original texture the upper parts of the hands more seamlessly connect to the sides. Where in your texture this isnt the case. Although I'm not sure if this can be fixed easily as this is somewhat of a side effect of having more detailed textures.

My only reserve to this type of project is that, as is pointed out above, more detailed textures without a revamp of the 3D models can be a bit... inconsistent? In this case it's still cool but I remember seeing highly detailed textures in Deus Ex mods used on original models and geometry and honestly, it doesn't really do the game any favours.

Yeah, I get it now.  It is EXTREMELY difficult to get the hands right.  It took me 7+ hours to get the Krall hands to line up, and even then they aren't perfect.  I'm not sure I have the patience to adjust the hands one pixel at a time until they line up correctly, but I will try and make them a bit better anyway.  I might just have to sacrifice some quality and keep the original hands with minor details added.  At least then, they will line up correctly.

This has been discussed in the thread already.  If someone wishes to step up to the plate and make models, I am all for it.  Otherwise, I am not going to wait.  If we all sit around and wait for someone else to do something, we might be using same old stuff for another 10+ years.  It is often wishful thinking that someone else is going to do all this wonderful work, when in reality, it doesn't happen.  If you really want something done, you have to do it yourself - especially with such a small community of players.  Of course, I can always keep these skins to myself and we can all sit here and wait for years and years for someone to create new models. *sarcasm*

I am not trying to be mean or rude (sorry if it came across as such), but this is just the sad truth.

I personally think the new detailed skins look just fine in-game without new models.  As I stated above, the skins look almost the same from a distance.  This project just adds detail to each part of the original skin, so when you approach the monsters up close, there is no more extreme blurriness.

Yo, no worries, I got your point, and I did agree that in this case, the more detailed skins don't stand out too much when compared to the rest, so it's a nice little improvement at the end of the day :)

The amount of work required to make such skins always manages to impress me by the way - I have never tried doing this myself, but I think I'll have to admit that it sounds too time consuming for me to want to try :P (at least I got into mapping!)

Here is an updated Ice Skaarj Skin. I spent probably 4-5 hours updating the hands :(
I also updated the red logo on the chest:

The claws are not masked in this image, for the same reason the Krall Staff is not masked. I sure wish someone could fix this bug... Anyway, I think this is a nice screenshot despite the claw issue:

The masked part is blue just because I tried to make it less of an eye sore during testing, but maybe it made it more obvious.  Either way, it doesn't matter since the released version will not look that way.

UT99 is my engine of choice, so I will create all the skins for UT99 first before making them work in 227.  I may need help with 227 later, but for now, I just want to finish all the skins.

Here is the Skaarj Scout.  I also did some modificaitons to the hands, because I wasn't quite happy with how the top of the fist turned out in the last screenshots I posted.  This update to the hands has also been applied to the Ice Skaarj and Skaarj Assassin.

The Skaarj are pretty good so far, just i see a disturbing lack of nippular appendages! What were you thinking, Unreal can't survive another nipple famine like we had in 2002! :P
