Unreal Stargate

Post by Neo_b »

Hello! I'm currently working on a Stargate campaign for UT'99. It will use scripted textures for Dial Home Devices (the control panels that activate the Stargate). The Stargates will, in some maps, work as an entry to the map, and will allow transport between different planets in one map, as well as a way to go a different one.

I previously made a DM Stargate map along with the coding. You can see how it looks here:

The DM map is available on: http://neo-b.edf-to-clan.de in the download section.

I needed to change the code a lot though, for convenience with the new possibilities. I realize that the transportation rings in my DM map are too small, and they will be bigger and better in the campaign. The campaign will work both in singleplayer and multiplayer.

So, all Stargate fans (and I'm talking about the series here), if you have any ideas for the plot or particular situations, I would be grateful. :)

The basic outline of my campaign:

The history about the Ancients, and what happened in the past is the same in my campaign's plot, but the Goa'uld do not exist here. The galaxy was able to develop more easily, although a highly advanced race (but not as highly as the Ancients), the Skaarj, was able to invade it. Along with the main character's planet (which is not Earth, but its level of technology is similar). He leaves his planet to find an ancient weapon to fight the invaders.

The plot could change. I already have ideas for several interesting situations in the campaign, but still could use some help. :)

Generally looks pretty good.  The outside area at the beginning is hell o' ugly though.  I'd recommend using lots of custom meshes for the Lab area to help make it feel less like a solid shade of gray everywhere.

Diehard on these forums has an unreleased (to my knowledge) Stargate texture pack that uses S3TC enhancements.  From what I've seen, those textures he made are mindblowing.  Highly recommended.

Here is a gallery of shots that would make any Stargate fan shit their pants:

Thank you for your responses. :) I love these Stargate pictures and I'm curious if the gate presented there is working dynamically, or is constantly opened. I think I should replay the original Unreal 1, perhaps this will give me some ideas for locations in my campaign. :D

Right now its open continuously, but when done it will be dynamically.

The project has a high priority to get finished, but as usual due to my health all goes way too slow. And i wanted to have it done for the Stargate Unreal project. And also for this Unreal Stargate project, because i already read this on the Beyond Unreal forums.

The packages contain now close to 5000 textures, all made exactly like how the Stargate movies and series looked. So in that respect they are "real life" Stargate textures. The bulk of the textures were added specifically for mappers like you Neo_b.

Right now the project contains over 185 gigabyte of data, while the endresult release prob will be around 4-5 gigabyte for Unreal and UT. I still have alot to do, but hope to continue the project asap after the upcomming S3TC release.

But aside my own map, i dearly would like to see other mappers go work with the packages and make tons and tons of other cool Stargate maps with them.

And here is a screen from the medical bay:
