PlayrShp Package

Post by DieHard SCWS »

Here is the first official release of the PlayShp package :)

Thanks to Smirftsch who gave it a try and Kerilk who came up with a MakingItNetworkCompatible tool.

First a few remarks:

- The package is not finished yet, but it covers most of the package textures (aprox 90 %).

- This also means there will be further updates :) , so check here from time to time.

- The textures have been added to the Max, meaning i used the maximum size for all textures, if you do notice videolag, than please post here and give your computer specs along with it.

---------------------------------------------------------

Well, here it is ;D

PlayerShp package

Probably the best maps to fully see the textures are:
DmSinfonia
Vortex2 (the first map you see when playing SinglePlayer)

Have fun with it, but please read below too :)

---------------------------------------------------------

I really would like to see post about this package, I NEED INPUT !

Always give the follow specs:

- What kind of CPU do you have.
- What kind of videocard and memorysize.
- What your computer memorysize is.

Please post about:

- Quality of the textures.
- Videolag, if you notice lag, please test it also as single player, so you know for sure that its your computer and not your connection.
- If you don't notice lag, than DO post that too !!!
- Any other remarks are welcome too.

This package will be the base for future packages, so this one is very important, please post...........

So it is working? Great!!!

Anyway, look for bug, I can't have found them all the first time.
Trying your version right away.

Anyway I didn't notice performance decrease after patching.
Spec:

P4 2.4GHz
1GB Ram
GF4 TI4200

Seems to be network compatible, didn't test before, just did and it worked.

No performance problem online also.

Two small problems :
- the link you give didn't get me to the download.
- Some texture have bad mixing with others(new blood one), but as it is a beta, nothing dramatic, I'm sure you know about them anyway.

GREAT WORK!!!

PS : You used an original Unreal texture package as a base for merging didn't you? Was not sure it would work. Great it did.

Yeah so far it seems to work great :)

I had the choice of either write a mail or going to try get this package done, i worked some 10 hours last night on the package, mainly because i saved everything as TGA and i had to re-save them all as DDS.

I did notice myself a few weird things where you cannot really put a finger on, but i am not sure if its a problem on my side (videocard)

What btw is the memorysize of your videocard, thats the most important spec lol ?

- the link you give didn't get me to the download.
Yes it does, its the bottom one, but that points out to me that the new design is not to clear :-/

- Some texture have bad mixing with others(new blood one),
If you mean that the blood suddenly ends and on the other side it starts weird, than yes that is correct, that is also how the originals are, in effect its correct. The only thing that could be done is lining up the 3 versions, but this will still not help in most situations, for some reason Epic and the maker of Sinfonia simply used the wrong textures for those places. But the floor itself should line up perfectly.

You used an original Unreal texture package as a base for merging didn't you?
Since you told me it calculated the textures i asumed i had to use the original ones, i was worried about the Masked textures, though it seems to work.

The only thing is, i had anticipated that the hologramms would be animated, but of course the tool does not pickup the extra textures i added, because they are not in the original package already :-/ Unless you find another way to add extra textures using this tool ;D

The Masked textures are one of those that do apear a bit strange to me, but as said, not sure its just on my end. I can see horizontal stripes in it, but when i tried the original S3TC version, i saw that same thing ? ? ?

But the main awsome part of this tool would be: This will speed up the posibillities dramatically, because it enables me to add new textures on the spot !!!!!!!!

This in effect means that i could release inmediatelly even if theres only one new texture available for a certain package, something i always wanted for the tool.

Since i already used the texture structure, with folders a s for groupnames i already have it all setup for all packages. (website database is also build like that)

Today i am also gonna run a test to see if it works with Alpha channel masked textures.

But yeah, for now its simply said an awsome tool ;D Big Big Thanks :)

Video Memory : 128MB

Glad you like the damn thing.
You should be able to import masked textures with no problems. If they don't appear right, it would be because the engine has a problem, the data will be perfectly saved in the package.

PS: to easyly convert your textures to DDS, I exported all of them at once from your package in UTPackage tool.

Someone please try it with my DmSSO map, you can get it in my mappack from Usermaps.

I almost always use playrshp.utx, it is my favourite package.
As much as i try, i cannot seem to think of an interesting and amusing signature...I blame the stupid fools who stole all my ideas for decent signatures...

Fools...

I'll get you some day!

It works great. No lag, texture quality is good.

In Vortex2 there are still a number of low-res textures, but I guess they come from other packages. I have no idea which texture is in which pagkage.

I did not get kicked (yet) and no version conflicts :)

Edit: News added to my frontpage.

excellent work, most of it looks amazing, much better then the original package :P

the only problem, as hyper said are some minor missing textures, mainly the vortex logo's.

i noticed that one or two high res textures from the original s3tc package arent present in the current version, mainly the s3tc keyboard in vortex rikers is back to its low res version.

I wanted to give replys more faster, but i lost my internet connection the whole day :-/

Kerilk
PS: to easyly convert your textures to DDS, I exported all of them at once from your package in UTPackage tool.
I had to resize them to begin with, and i wanted to be sure they were clean files. But yeah it could have been done that way.

Xavious
I almost always use playrshp.utx, it is my favourite package.
Than you will be very happy with the upcomming PlayrShp01.utx package ;D I actually want to add two textures of the PlayrShp01 package in the next PlayrShp update, so everybody can have a look at them. The update after that i will restore the proper texture to it again :)

Hyper
It works great. No lag, texture quality is good.
The main thing that could give lag is the animated radarscreen, i added that one in the size of 1024 x 1024 pixels, since that animation is built of 16 textures which are each 3 Mb big, than that single animation is a staggering 48 Mb big !!! So if no one has lag, well than S3TC indeed is awsome effective lol.

But i do want to hear from people having only a 64 Mb videocard if they also have no lag in a radar animated area.

Hyper
In Vortex2 there are still a number of low-res textures, but I guess they come from other packages.
As said, not all textures are there, some 10% is still missing, also Vortex2 has some textures that indeed do originate from other packages.

Turboman
i noticed that one or two high res textures from the original s3tc package arent present in the current version, mainly the s3tc keyboard in vortex rikers is back to its low res version.

I believe you on your word, i must have missed him, and i will add that one in the update. But as some other textures, this one too will be abandoned completelly. In the original S3TC PlayrShp package were a few butt ungly textures. The keyboard is one of them and will have a redone version that will have a cool Unreal look.

Than there is more good news ;D

Today i tested the JWSky package to see if Alpha channel Masked textures could work, well, they do :) :) :) And that too is awsome news !!!

PlayrShp Package Update 08-12-2007

Post by DieHard SCWS »

BUMP :)

The PlayrShp package backthan was the first S3TC package that was released. One of the reasons was that it already had a very high count of S3TC textures made by Epic, which ment i had alot of bases to work from.

When i started working on this update, i did run into problems because there were so many Epic S3TC textures present. Normally all textures are build from a certain base texture, Epic however used some 6 different S3TC base textures that did not match eachother.

At first i started updating textures but it just became more and more complex, so i decided to pretty much scratch everything and go work up again from the bottom. This means that the S3TC user will have to get used to a completelly different look for a bunch of textures :)

The package is almost complete, the only textures missing are the ones from the outer hull from Vortex Rikers, i simply couldnt create a good matching rusted surface to work from. Means those textures will have to wait for the next update. But 173 out of 177 textures are done now.

As said i will  update those textures in time, including a few tweaks on other textures that i am not 100% satisfied about. But effectivelly this is pretty much the most done package.

And here it is:

[glow=yellow,2,300]PlayrShp.utx[/glow]

Obviously, best map to check out the textures are the first Unreal map Vortex2 and DmSinfonia :D
