Skyboxes (plz help a dialup-bound n00b)

Post by xce »

Hi there. Like all people there, I like Unreal. In fact, I like Unreal/Na Pali more than anything in the series. Now, thanks to some guy on a Russian software forum, I know that some hardcore fans continue to improve the game. That's something elevating to know, considering all the new games around. Thanks to u all!

More to the point of this topic, as you've already noticed, I'm a dialup user and have no possibility to download the hi-res texture packs. Not that I really need all of them, I don't mind some asceticism.

But one thing that REALLY brings me down is skyboxes. Well, not exactly skies and planets, but MOUNTAINS. If I'm not mistaken, there are only a few tex packs with mountains. Perhaps someone can help me out with getting just these packs? Or even separate textures, if I can insert the s3 version in the standart pack with the help of UEd2 (UT).

Thanks in advance. :)

no problem....but first you need to DL the OpenGL patch by smirfy found in Downloads under Oldunreal Patches....that way u can run the S3TC textures.

Herez the main package for Mountains.

I already noticed the post yesterday and didnt have time to reply.

Difficult to give a usefull answer there. But the package Shivaxi mentioned is indeed the package you want. But it needs to be said, theres only a little updates in the some of the rockfaces, and more important, the widelly used rockfaces in Unreal only have beta S3TC textures.

It is still very difficult to recreate those, they look simple but prooved to be very complex to recreate...........

But yeah the GenEarth package is the oné you want to have, maybe together with the GenTerra package for all the soils(GenTerra package is pretty much complete and has all the grass and soil you want in High quality)

For all the other packages, there is a pretty huge update at hand for the follow packages:
Mine
PlayrShp
Langs
DecayedS

For those i would wait till the update is done.

Perhaps someone can help me out with getting just these packs? Or even separate textures, if I can insert the s3 version in the standart pack with the help of UEd2 (UT).

That would be useless, all S3TC textures are DDS compressed, which means that the most effective storage has been reached already. Sending single files will be larger than the ready and done packages(though i agree it can be more convienent for Dial up download). But in any case the total amount will be alot larger than trying to download the single packages.

The packages btw are usable for UT to begin with (though not online)

And theres no way for you to go to someone else (or for that matter try find a company that is willing to download them) and have them burned on CD or DVD ?

Thanks everyone guys!

Been a little busy studying, but hope I'll download the packages at the end of the week. As to getting the files from someone else, I think I'll get them for approximately the same sum of money anyways... So'll download em myself.

Not if a company does it for you as suggested by Diehard. Some people pay for bandwidth as well.
