Movers problem

Post by Canadian_Bacon »

ok i have these movers in the shape of poles that are supposed to move up and cover doors, windows, reveal secrets and so on.

first i was able to get one involving 4 movers to work. i tagged each pole, made another mover named "switch4" and made the even "pole" and than i made a switch which links to switch4 for some reason unknown lol

i changed some settign under "objects" to triggertoggle so that wasn't the problem. even so the event never happens. is there a limit to how many you can have with the same tag? i didn't seem to have a problem with 4 :-/

this is becoming a big problem because i also can't get some double doors to open from some mover linked to a switch ahhhh... i'll try linking the mover to the switch and having the switch perform the event :P

No, there's no limit, or if there is, it's probably quite a high number, like 64 or something.

If you have the red line going from the trigger to the movers, i can't see any reason why it woulnd't work...

Just be sure to have the correct settings in the trigger as well as the movers, there could be some problems there...
As much as i try, i cannot seem to think of an interesting and amusing signature...I blame the stupid fools who stole all my ideas for decent signatures...

Fools...

I'll get you some day!

First make sure that all of the movers (being used together in the same triggered event) are setup ... Properties - Events - Tag - Switch4 ... And then setup all of the triggers (being used to set the movers into motion) that are link to the movers ... Properties - Events - Event - Switch4 ... and it should work.

Anytime an Event Switch4 trigger is set off it should activate all of the Tag Switch4 movers.

It still doesn't work, but i think i found areason why. the ones don't work are the ones that are duplicates of the others.. the double swinging doors don't work as well and both doors are identical becasue the seodn onw is a duplicate. so i'm gonna try making a seperate door mover for each and see if that works. and if that works i'll have to spend like 20 minutes setting up the other one lol.

turns out you can;t make duplicates of other brushes and make them movers :\ they have to be modified in some way before they'll work.

first i checked to see if either door worked when you jsut bumped them and that didn't even work. so i deleted one and duplicated it and made it a bump triggered door as well. it didn;t work. so i made a door from scratch and it jsut happened to work with both the trigger and the playerbump. so i'm gonna have to make alot of movers again lol

I know for sure you can make duplicates of brushes, in fact movers as well. I have done this in the past with a port I did of Anochronism. I had to duplicate the existing movers to fix bsp problems. You must make sure you reset the keyframes and adjust the tags accordingly. Have you checked the beyond unreal wiki?
http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/
Just go there and do a search on movers and I'm sure everything will be answered.

wow i wasn't thinking right, it turns out it was because i had the other brushes on return on encroach and not on something like ignore or crush because one of them was probably off a bit make it go through a wall.

but you could add to wiki that if one moving brush hits an abstruction when a series of brushes are attached to a trigger, all of them will stop.

thanks for your help :D

Glad it worked out OK ...

One thing that messed me up once with a door not working. I didn't make a "slot" for the mover to go into - and it didn't work either. Re-read the docs a few times and it still didn't click in. I opened another map in the Editor and looked at it ... Doh !! Sometimes it's the simple things that just escape reason - but it all works out OK in the end.
