Having trouble
Hi all - I'm loading up a new machine and having trouble installing the S3TC textures on my install of Unreal Gold. My video card (x1800xt) supports OGL, but when I load up the multimedia pack and try to run the game I get an error message. I've had to uninstall 3x, I don't want to again lest I clutter up my registry.
I seem to remember doing this a few years ago - it involved loading a new OGL driver and deleting the orginal system folder, or ini file.
I must have your instructions wrong. Can anyone step-by-step this for me?
Thanks!

Re: Having trouble
1. Install Unreal
2. Install your prefered patch version (224 or 226)- for UGold there is only 1 patch if it isnt already the latest version
3. Make a backup of your System folder (just in case)
4. Download the latest OMP (OldunrealMultimediaPatch) for your version of Unreal: http://www.oldunreal.com/oldunrealpatches.html
5. Install the OMP (detailed informations are included so RTFM!)
6. Startup Unreal, check if everything is fine, if not RTFM!!!! of the OMP ! if this doesnt work uninstall the OMP / or use your backup you made at (2.) and try again.
7. Check in advanced options that UseS3TC is checked and OpenGL is your chosen renderer
8. Make a copy of your textures folder
9. Extract the high-res textures and overwrite the textures in your Texture folder.
10. Startup Unreal, if there is a problem you can always use your backup of textures to restore the original Textures.
11. Have fun.

Re: Having trouble
Thanks, I'll try again. I did RTFM, and after I installed everything I got an error firing off the game from the Program icon - it also wouldn't allow me to uninstall the game, I had to manually remove the folders and empty the Recycle bin.
The 'preferred' patch business, perhaps that's where I'm having trouble. Unreal Gold is v226f already, isn't it? Is the patch the official Epic patch or something related specifically to this process?

Re: Having trouble
Normaly UGold doesnt need to be patched with any original patch.Ugold is 226b, unfortunately legend decided to make a different version of Unreal. If you versions isnt 226b (I'm not sure if i ever have seen an UGold version which wasnt 226b already) try http://www.oldunreal.com/patch/official/weblinkspatch.exe -
the OMP you need for it then is: http://www.oldunreal.com/patch/OMP-UGOLD-V0.2.exe

Re: Having trouble
I made installation guides for both Unreal and UnrealGold a while back containing screenshots, its a 10 step installation guide:
http://www.celticwarriors.net/website/S3TC/S3TCInstallation/UnrealGold/S3TCInstallationUnrealGold.htm
If instructions from Smirftsch won't work try that one, and you may want to redownload the patches, incase something got corrupted during download(just to make sure its all working)

If by that remark you only mean it cannot find the UnrealGold.exe than delete the icon and go in systemfolder from UnrealGold and rightclick on UnrealGold.exe and choose: Copy to Destktop(thereby making a shortcut to your Desktop) That way your sure the icon points to the correct location.I got an error firing off the game from the Program icon

Re: Having trouble
Well, I sort of cheated - I overlaid my current install of UG with my previous, S3TC-enabled install fom my transplanted hard drive.
Looks great - my only problem is that now it runs at 250fps at 12x10 with everything turned up. Makes me seasick.
