Spawnjump bug (UT specifically but may be U227 also)

Post by gopostal »

If any of you guys at BT players you undoubtedly know of the spawnjump bug. We are discussing how to fix it in this thread at UT99.

I'm not sure if this bug exists in Unreal or if you guys are familiar with it. There's a good explanation of it at the start of the thread if you are interested. I compared the restarting player code between U227 and UT and they are different so I wonder if this is to fix this problem and it has been discussed already.

I think this is simply the game forgetting to reset physics state on respawning and it's just not noticeable to U227 players because there is no really strict timing of the game. I've tried a couple of quick fixes to see if I can stop it but I think the answer lies deeper than a quick surface glance. Has anyone done a specific breakdown of how a spawning player initializes? I think my attempt to reset physics is coming either too early or too late but I don't know where to insert it properly (if this is really the answer anyway).

Thanks for peeking at this. I'm inclined to think that this is going to take a better understanding to fix than a hobby level coder like me has.

Is there any reliable way to reproduce that bug without installing BT mods?

I think you can reproduce it in normal DM play if I remember correctly. I'll find out and make a demonstration video to show exactly what I'm asking about. I should have done that before posting.

Someone in that thread wants the hold shift to float in air bug retained? thats not only a bug but an exploit. worse if you hold crouch since for some reason that can gib players.

I can't reproduce that bug either. If it happens with some realcrouch mod that uses SetLocation, then the reason of telefragging is obvious.

The scenario was coopgame + endgame map (pre fix in non-227 map) and hold crouch

don't know if it was a bug with custom gametypes with FF on. Very well could be.
