Any texture file finished already?

Post by Hyper »

Is there any texture file finished already? I've seen amazing "work in progress" stuff here but haven't seen any files yet.

Are there already some (small) files finished and usable with Unreal? (Also online)

For some reason i completelly oversaw this post lol

But the answer would be no :)

But i am working my a$$ off to get the package i am working on done though :)

Often when your working on a bunch of textures, you run into a problem that seems unsolvable, than it takes time to solve that problem while i keep working on other textures. (i didn't ask, but i am pretty sure Turboman has the same problem lol, seeing how he is skipping between the packages hes working on)

One mayor problem i have is something simple as adding the cities on top the SkyCity textures in JWSky. At first glance that looked to me as a simple thing but it ain't :-/ I kept working on the PlayrShip package in the meantime. I did probably solve the city problems, also i fond a way to add the bumpmaps to the rocks, so they will look a whole lotta rockyer :)

The problem is, that technique also will make the cities on top have a rocky apearence, and that can't be good lol. Rendering the cities seperate and than add them to the rocks will make it impossible to merge them invisible. I tried that, no good lol, looks eeeeh, ....disgusting ?

The solution now is that i need to render both the rocks and cities at the same time and than remove the cities temporarelly, than recolor and bump the rocks, than read-add the cities. Taking out the cities goes by hand and consumes alotta time. Re-add them is done in a sec.

I also found a good technique to redo the nebula texture, i am now able to make them by hand and therefore stear the result better than using an actual picture from a nebula which was the problem to begin with.

As far as the PlayrShp package, i also solved a major problem there, which means that i almost completed the animated part of the radarscreen yesterday.

Take a look here: http://www.celticwarriors.net/website/S3TC/S3TCTextures/PlayrShp/PlayrShp_Animated.htm

As you can see, 3 textures in that animation are still missing, the blue expanding blip looked simple too me, only to find out it is horribly difficult to create. Another completelly stupid thing; i can't figure out if the blue stuff below or on top of the crosshairs is, but regardless, i will have that group done shortly. That file btw, is 677 Mb big and contains almost 100 layers, that too can make you loose a good overview......

The other major problem in the package is, i am not satisfied with some base textures i made to create some important texteres in that package, since those textures depend on a good base, i cannot really finish those either.

Another simple problem i have is on the hologramms, i can make the texts for it, but i still can't find the font anywhere :-/ I have seen that font thousends of times in my life but now i can't find the friggen font, nor do i know the name.

Its often completelly stupid stuff as described above that makes it difficult to finish textures, but i will get there ;)

But i am working on them group by group, i re-started with the Animation, than ill recheck Base, Cieling, Deco while trying to solve the problems on the spot, so i can go ahead with the next group. And i won't proceed to the next till i finished the previous and complete to my satisfaction.

Btw, if i won't finish the package at the end of this month, i will release an update that will contain most of the already useable done textures :) Which means, regardless what happens, i start to work on a pre-release on August 1. Depending on my hands it could be done in one or 3 days.

And if you want to see how far it is at the moment (not all done textures are already added to the pages), just go through them one by one here: http://www.celticwarriors.net/website/S3TC/S3TCTextures/PlayrShp/PlayrShp.htm

But all together, steadelly i am getting there :)

Another good reason to finish the complete package is, and i know its a stupid reason lol, but i am so damn curious how big the final PlayrShip.utx package will be in Megabytes. It could range from 50 Mb up to some 200 Mb lol, Me very, very, very curious about that :) ;D :)

There is a image analyser that (sometimes) identify a font from an image. It might be useful:

And great work on the radar display! I can't wait to see the S3TC textures in Unreal!

Thought the textures are far from finished i already started to add the already done textures to the new S3TC PlayrShp package.

I added some textures to a "tweaked" DmDeckPlayrShp (7.5 Mb download)

Note that the map ONLY works with S3TC enabled !!!

Some other notes:

1) The textures in this package do NOT relate to the DmDeck16 textures, i just used DmDeck16 to show the PlayrShp textures. Any lookalike DmDeck16 texture is purelly accidental.

2) Most textures in this package are complete, but not all, some still need some tweaking.

3) The textures that came with the 2nd UT cd are all, with a few exceptions in the size of 1024 x 1024 pixels. Therefore they do look awsome, but to match the game, the new textures are all 4 times the original size. This is to prevent lag. So don't be disapointed if you cannot zoom endlessly on the textures like you could with the Epic S3TC textures !!!

3a) In addition to 3), if tests will show that they can be bigger without lag than they will be added in a bigger size (16 times the origional size).

Have fun with the map :)
