It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!

Unreal v226f and opengl v2106 Online connection pr
Hello, I as well as a few other people I've talked to are having a problem. Running 226f Unreal1 and openGL v2106. When I try to connect to a server, it starts to connect and then it disapears and i'm right back to my desktop. This is exactly what used to happen before I found there was this opengl patch. Whenever I tgried to run opengl, thats what would happen. With your v2106, I can play the game fine locally, even with the hi-res textures from UT cd-2. Heres what i've tried:
1- Reinstalled game and ran all the game patches on it in order, then ran the opengl patch. no work.
2 - Switch to Software render and I connect to game fine. Once in game, I can switch to Opengl and its also fine online. But as soon as map changes, it bunps me off, closes the game, and returns me to desktop again.
3 - Clean install again, patch up to v224 , with opengl patch V 2106, I can connect and play online fine, but game has the pre-226 bugs. Help? Seems to definitley be related to running only 226 and 2106 together.
4 - Tried setting my Unreal ini Opengl settings to what you had in readme file, and, set to default. Neither worked.
Here's some system info:
Athlon Classic 800Mghz
512mb PC100 SDRam
34gb harddrive
GeForce2 Ti w/64mb ram

its kinda difficult, because i don't have the headers for 226f, only for UGold; its only workin because these 2 versions are in most parts similar, but i can't make direct changes in the 226f parts; anyway, plz post ur error log, maybe i can do somethin

Hmm, ok. I ordered Unreal Gold last nite before you replied anyway, just so I could get the newer version and the mission pack
But for now, I found, running Unreal 1, with Patch 226f, and OpenGL patch v2.1.0.5, I can play and connect. Everythings fine so far, no problems. Only time I have a problem is when I change to the openGLdrv.dll from the 2.1.0.6 package. So I just won't run that one. As for error log or message, can't help you. I never actually get a message. Game just disapears. I have however HEARD a funny 'boing' noise everytime the screen tried to connect right before it disapeared and I was back to desktop. Maybe its a clash with the sound drivers in the newer patch or something? Addressing issue? My unreal.log file never actually finishes, its like it just stopped and went away, but i'm posting the log file for you anyways. I did notice a couple strange error messages before I tried connecting, but I wasn't having a problems with anything at that time. Anyways, Kepp up the GREAT WORK! As I said before, it's MUCH APPRECIATED!

I had the same problem so I switched to the v2.1.0.5 patch. Now I can play online again. The fps went down some but maybe it will all get fixed.

Just a quick addition. I bought Unreal Gold, but had the same problems trying to run it with the 2106 OpenGL drivers as I did with Unreal 1. So I'm running Unreal Gold with the 2105 Opengl Drivers.

Especially when you consider the only diference is an equivalence between two OpenGL extensions.....
Maybe one of your header has changed between the two version, I can't see anything else. Istill have a backup of the time I built 2105. I could build the 2106 with it and send it to you for testing purpose...

Im having even a more strange things occur, I cant get a error log either, just never loads the map when conneting online. If I switch to d3d it works but I thing some of the textures were over written, when the UT textures were added for OpenGL, cause where the new textures are spose to be its just black, but I can connect to internet, it just looks funky =)
Here is where it gets stranger, other OpenGL games seem to be effected (im not sure about this still testing) but I cant run Medal of Honor any more, but the new expansion pack Spearhead I can, 0-O

In the past when I have tried a beta directx they like expired in 30 days and then I would get the little messages everytime I started a game "directx has expired" I couldnt uninstall them or reinstall earlier versions, and that just sucked =)
Oh I just realized you said it was based on Gold, I bet that is it, they are different .exe's, right? If I have gold installed and try to connect to regular it wont connect, and if I have regular and try to connect to gold it wont work either, right?

My system has been down for awhile and now I'm running a GF4 Ti4200 128MB (O/C 320/610) and when using the 2.1.0.6 I still can't play online but at least I'm getting an error message now. The 2.1.0.5 works OK.
unreal.exe causes an invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL yada, yada.
I don't know if this helps. I'm running Win98se DirectX 8.1, every driver up to date.
There are no error messages in the unreal.log file.

Could it be possible that the new openGL v2106 patch was compiled to be in use with the newer MSVCRT.DLL C Runtime library? I know that Unreal comes with a version 5 of that DLL and the newest C Runtime library is version 6 I think.
I don't know much about how or where those runtimes are used but that's just a guess since WimpMiester crashed with that error.

Don't worry
, all you need to do is download the OpenGL v2105 patch from oldunreal.com That will enable you to succesfully 100% be able to play multiplayer in unreal. You probaly won't notice any difference between the OpenGL v2106 patch and the v2105 patch, except the v2105 patch includes some cool features in the advanced options(such as fisheye).
Though, in any OpenGL version the black tree bug is still present. Heres a way to fix it: Press tab, and type in flush. That flushes engine caches. You will need to do this when entering any level or you will start to see skyboxes and certain flames, water, etc that is black.
Have fun with fast colorful(but still black tree bug present unless you type in your system console flush.)

The date of creation said Feb 5th so I figured it was worth a shot. Joining a server online still crashes Unreal though.

maybe found out the problem ,guess its caused by trouble with flush...made another version of it (hopefully fixed now), u can find it in the same directory, happy trying and gimme information if it worx.

Ok, I tested the new version and it works fine now.
Connections with no errors. However there are some settings to the INI file under OpenGlRenderDevice that seem to cause some weird issues.
If the DoPrecache and UsePrecache for v2.1.0.5 and v2.1.0.7 are set to "True" then the infamous black skybox masking bug pops up like everyone has seen. If you set the Precache entries for both v2.1.0.5 and v2.1.0.7 to False then the skybox masking bug gets fixed, but then the black tree, and bird1 masking bugs pop up instead. Either way you get some sort of black masking bug :-/ It's up to the user which they can tolerate more...or just use that keybind to mask.txt.
Second, for the new v2.1.0.7 the entry "UseFilterSGIS" when set to "True" causes some sort of texture smoothing problem in the game with ranged objects (things look all pixely everywhere). I recemmend people leave this entry at False.
These observations and tests were done using a Geforce2 MX card.

thanx for the detailed information, some of these options may cause different results on other grafix cards
doprecache is an entry which can be deleted since it was replaced with useprecache, so it doesn't matter if its true or false

Havent had as much time as I would like to test this 2.1.0.7 patch but so far it seems to be working OK. I've tried all game modes online and a little LAN coop and so far no problems. But I haven t been able to spend more the 30 minutes at a time. Want to put in at least 2 hours in one session to see how it goes. Will update again when that happens.
