OpenGL doesn't work on G400

Post by Andu »

Ok, so I download and install the Unreal 226F patch.
I then download and install the latest OpenGL driver (yes, I only replace the OpenGL.dll file in the /Unreal/System dir).
Next up: boot the game and copy the settings from the readme file, but when I switch the graphics driver to OpenGL the game runs without textures (or more like the textures are just different shades of purple). Direct3D works just fine, but it's slower than OpenGL. Can anyone help?

My relevant specs are:
Pentium II 350 Mhz cpu,
256 megs of RAM,
Matrox Millenium G400 gpu w 16 megs of VRAM,
Windows 95 OSR2 and DX7

The video card drivers are the latest Matrox has released for Win95. I detest the idea of upgrading my DirectX since all the other games run just fine and DX8 requires that darn DCOM which is only trouble.

unfortunately opengl isnt supported correctly for every card, especially old matrox or low cost intel chipsets doesnt work often. you didnt tell your system specs, but with win95 and a matrox g400 card...maybe there is no chance... probably you would need at least to update your OS to something more new than win95 to get better opengl support for your card.

Fortunately I was able to get my hands on a Voodoo2 which now resides in my system for Unreal and a few other older games. End of story.
OpenGL on my G400 works just fine in Half-Life and Homeworld for example. Only Unreal was giving me trouble. Then I read about these older games being designed for Voodoo generation of accelerators and thought maybe I'm better off not trying to fiddle with everything.
The G400 was meant to play newer games with newer tech. I'll leave it at that..

edit:
