I have found this game and tried playing it on my Windows ME, it worked perfectly. I have tried playing this game on my Windows XP, but I always get an error that says:
General protection fault!

Re: Unreal gold error
I think I've gotten that message before. It sounds like you might be missing a file, or your plugins for your laptop might not be up to date. Try updating your drivers/plugins/and your DirectX version to the latest.
If that doesn't work I'm sure some other posters may have a better idea of what is wrong.

What driver/plugin are you talking about updating? If your talking about the video driver My laptop's video driver can't be updated. I have Direct X 9.

Re: Unreal gold error
You have a virus on your computer which is interfering with your NVIDIA driver...

Re: Unreal gold error
I have the same problem with Unreal Gold. I have WinXP Home, Pentium 4, ATI RAEDON 9000 .
Actually, I got the same error with Unreal 2.
But in my case, the error doesn't appear the first time, but starts happening after one or more Unreal runs. When it happens, a reboot doesn't help, but Unreal re-install helps. So I've been re-installing Unreal regularly.
I was able to figure out the following:
1. It is not the OS or other applications. I tried changing the hard drive and installing the OS from MS disk. Doesn't work.
2. It's not the video card. I took my video card away, installed it on a different computer, and Unreal works fine there.
3. It's not OpenGL or Direct3D driver. Choose eother one, or even software rendering - the problem occurs.
4. BIOS update didn't help either.
5. CD drive removal/replacement doesn't work.
Based on all of the above, I am inclined to think my particular motherboard. I have Compaq Presario 6000, but I wasn't able to find the exact motherboard model.
But it also has to be an Unreal bug because I don't have similar problems with any other applications.
