Video prob. Jerks and laggs in multiplayer

Post by SSD »

Ok,

I've got a odd problem that i have been trying to figure out for about 3 days now. My system is a AMD 3000+ 64 bit 1.8 ghz on a Nvidia GeForce3 420 Go 32m card, 512mb system ram running winblowz XP SP2. I have the latest and greatest drivers for the gfx card BTW.

Problem: Playing unreal in multiplayer mode is the sux0r!! I have messed with resolution settings, unreal driver modes and I still get the following effect. The game will run, I'd say, 5x faster then it should be. But when getting closer to a player, it will lagg and sometimes freeze for a few moments. Other times, iI will move forward, backwards etc.. and the game will jerk forward very unsmoothly. My fisrt though was to set the netspeed to a lower/ lower setting. Nope!

Any ideas here?

Update:

for some strange reason. If i load up unreal, the goto the settings for the vid card and say change gfx driver and then select the same driver and unreal loads up..... IT WORKS no problem. However, i have to do this each time I load unreal, so by no means is it a "fix" just a workaround. Loaded Forceware Nvidia Drivers and DirectX 9.0c, to help speed up the FPS. No huge gain, but is smoother now.

I haven't a clue what setting it changes when I re-load unreal, but it seems to fix the "bug?".. Or maybe unreal isn't happy with my 64 bit system. Dunno, but I think it's time for the software world to realize 32 bit hardware is old now and start realeseing driver support for 64 bit systems... just my added .02c worth seen how I just got done installing WinXP 64 bit and Suse 9.2 and see no major improvements as all the supported drivers are MIA. Case and point, Broadcom hardware. What a F'ing joke! Back to XP.. ARG!
