Unreal226 Final SOUND Problems on NEW HARDWARE

Post by Damon »

:( Having serious sound problems with my Unreal.

I used the latest OPENGL patch here to run the latest version 226final. The game is looking beautiful in OpenGl, running it at 1600x1024 RES on a G-Force-4 Ti4600 128MB DDR.

The system specs are Athlon 1.4GHZ, 1 GIG OF DDR MEM, Sound card is a new Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer.

I set audio channels to 32, sound quality to 44100HZ.

No matter if I have surround sound on or off the music still breaks up. Help!

It sounds like you didn't install the VIA Drivers, just yet and/or the VIA latency patch.

A lot of Windows users are complaining with breaking up sound in Unreal and Unreal Tournament.

To fix this enter the following in your unreal.ini

In the sound section you will a part that says; latency
that is most likely set at 40. Set this at 60.
Save and close

This will fix crackling in Unreal Tournament, Unreal etc.

Is it just your music or does it happen to sound fx as well? I got an sb live and I some times get distorted sound in games like unreal, UT, WOT and even in build 697 of unreal 2 beta. It happens randomly and I cant find any way to fix it :'( . Though I seem to get it more with unreal 1 if I run it with the new opengl drivers.

I all so found this on the unreal tech site:

"Using the latest release (July '00) of SBLive Win2K drivers from Creative may cause frame rate hitches and distorted sound in UT for some users. "

So it seems Epic knows about it...

Well the beta I had was old (like I said it was only build 697 epic is up to 900+ if I remember right) and only came with two audio Subsystem. The old galaxy 3d sound that’s been in all the Unreals and a Direct x Subsystem witch seem more limited in setting so I never bothered to test it.

mailed with daniel vogel a while ago, he told me that the galaxy was the first thing he killed while joining epic ;) - so expect to have OpenAL in Unreal 2

Hi all,

That latency change from 40 to 60 fixed my sfx probs. I'm using 224v on an Athlon 600 with GeForce 2 MX, SBLive!, 256 RAM, and XP Pro. Just so everyone knows in which cases it does work.

BTW, I'm also using the 2104 OGL. Great job on that BTW. D3D sux0rs.

You might want to try the sound driver of Unreal 225f. This one has the best quality for EAX positional audio, but there is a bug that breaks the volume control.
