bad graphics on TFT screen

Post by [GOD]Anck-Su-Namun »

A friend of mine has bought a new (and i mean NEW) PC, but now he can't play Unreal anymore.

It's a P4 3,6 GHz HT, with 1 GB PC3600, and a GeForce4 Ti4600

He's on Windows XP with SP1, using DirectX9 and Detonator 41.09

The problem is, he has a 20,1 inch TFT screen with it. It's fine for all other games and applications, but it doesn't work right with Unreal, he gets a blurry game and real bad trailing. The screen is a formac gallery 20.1 DVI and supposed to be one of the best screens on the market

He says he already tried different patches and settings, and the problem is still there. :/ Any help would be greatly appreciated, way it is now he'd have to stop playing unreal and that wouldn't be good :/

Thanks in advance!!

can't imagine a reason other games run fine except unreal...well because most of the recent games prefer directx (hell knows why) its maybe an opengl issue, or, are the other games fast shooters like unreal ? Some displays are known to make trouble with fast moving - aside this i have only one idea: vsync is disabled. Since vsync is to synchronise FPS with Hz (Refresh rate of the monitor) its always a good idea to set it on. Displays don't need such a high refresh rate, they are not flickering at all, so most displays run at 60Hz - 75Hz, so enabling VSync will cause Unreal to run at 60 FPS to avoid FrameSkipping, don't worry about the missing FPS you won't notice a difference in smooth gameplay. With a geforce 4 i expect Unreal to run with about 100FPS, 100 FPS with 60Hz refresh rate...well i'm sure you'll understand what i mean.
Good luck

The problem with TFT screens is their fixed resolution; if you run a game in another resolution, it the screen converts the lower resolution to a higher one, causing image quality loss.

About the refresh rate; you can set it when you use the OldUnreal OpenGL driver, under advanced options > OpenGL driver and there an option something like refreshrate=. Set this to the maximum your monitor supports at the resolution you want to run. I set it to 100 for 100Hz.
