I have browsed some of the links on oldunreal more and more, and I'm sure there's more to find, but I want to explain some frustrations I've had.
First, cheats on servers. I never did see or catch anyone cheating. I can't tell if someone is good, bad or to the extreme at one end or the other. With an advantage over someone, it's not fair. We play the game to improve but how can we if the other person uses cheats? It's not real enough. It's more fake.
Second. I really liked Team Fortress. The idea was great, but I played it very little. Each time I entered I thought tactically. It came as a shock when I tried playing TF2. I was in the game, other players were fighting, but out of nowhere I was kicked. I guess my deaths (6:1 d:k) either automatically threw me off, or someone didn't want to play against me and a vote was cast. Guess what? I don't play TF2 any more.
Last, I took interest in Among Us. I guess it's Indie or maybe Team 17 were involved, and the plot was good enough to give it a try. Once downloaded I joined a server with some Italians(?) playing, and I wrote, "Hey!" waiting in the lobby. I was immediately kicked. Guess what? I don't play Among Us any more.
If I could write a multiplayer games, which I can't, I'd limit the powers of other players and include everyone. Maybe it's like high school and we get the different gangs over there and over there, and we stay away. Without a "ban" button, I guess the pros leave? If a server is public, treat it like a shopping mall or supermarket?

It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!
If you have any further concerns feel free to contact me: Smirftsch@oldunreal.com

The way I understand it, both TF2 and Among Us - each kick was the first case and then you automatically ditched the game?

The netiquette section was actually written an awfully long time ago and was probably more relevant to the era, haha. I would imagine there's virtually no - to - little cheaters on U1 right now but significantly more on UT99.thenewkgb wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 1:11 am I have browsed some of the links on oldunreal more and more, and I'm sure there's more to find, but I want to explain some frustrations I've had.

As for your experiences on TF2 and Among us, just sounds like the foibles of modern online lobby's lol. Team Fortress Classic and UT99 were my very first regularly played online games (until I moved over to unreal 1).

It's not uncommon for me to run away from somewhere because I didn't like how I was treated.TigerTheGreat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 2:56 pm The way I understand it, both TF2 and Among Us - each kick was the first case and then you automatically ditched the game?
It's not uncommon I ditch a game, game engine or personal project because it didn't work out.
Perhaps this is something I can bring up with a professional as it has never felt good or right (to run away)

Thing is... in the first case, it really does seem like you are the problem.
The way I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong), the games in question are decentralized. So the way you're treated on Server A or B will not be true on Server C or D. Now had this been the case with a centralized MMO where everyone connects to a single server or has just a few to choose from one per continent... I'd understand you. But as it is, I don't.

Can you rephrase that please? I might be able to explain then.TigerTheGreat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 29, 2025 9:18 pm Thing is... in the first case, it really does seem like you are the problem.

Nevermind mate. Plus we can all say "please" and "thanks" when we don't mean it. If I plan to build a map in Unreal I can stick to that and post screenshots when I can. I can post less personal thoughts as that's usually what causes all of this.thenewkgb wrote:Can you rephrase that please? I might be able to explain then.
