DmSolaris search
I know that this will probably end up not being answered by anyone...however there might be a rare version of Unreal possibly sold in France only with an extra map called DmSolaris. This was found by accident by GamesHarder.

I asked Inoxx about DmSolaris, here's what he said:
Btw I don't have a contact for Pancho anymore so I can't ask him and Jeremy War I never managed to speak to/contact.Sorry I don't remember. The name sounds familiar. I think it was Pancho's
map or maybe Jeremy War

He's asking around still. I just figured out it might be possible that the thing I assumed was HealPod was actually DmSolaris. But that it started as the same map once. Like beta ut liandri versus the later liandri. They also renamed the old Liandri to Klaris at one point when both coexisted...which actually sounds kind of similar come to think of it now.
Just like the beta Unreal had two very different versions of the skydm level...

It's nice that Inoxx still can be contacted with Unreal related stuff
And the fact that he answers too.

Fayia's version is confirmed to have this map.
It is the same map as that one screenshot which could have been healpod. And two more screenshots were provided. Can't say more right now until the whole thing gets resolved.

Re: DmSolaris search
I also can't say if I played this or not until its out there, as in if I played it back in 1998. Its possible there were two versions of Unreal on that computer back in 1998. I might have confused
There's also a different theory on who the author might have been but maybe Fayia can look it up and say, via level properties by doing editactor class=levelinfo.
Suffice it to say the level seems to have elements of deck16, healpod and maybe even a bit of Krazy. Which is probably why it was cut. There seem to be some shafts/elevator shafts, there are ramps like in deck16, perhaps some gravity stuff like in Ariza and Krazy. Again, not surprised it got cut in the end. But it seems like unlike with Liandri/Klaris this might be by different author. It doesn't look like Cliff's work at least by the naked eye. But we'll see once stuff is confirmed.
Again, I remmeber beta HealPod or I thought it was healpod but I might have mixed the two maps in my mind instead...
that had like the central piston instead be lift kind of like that map in 221 UT. Yea I can't believe *NOW* I forgot its name. I even converted the map and stuff and now I forgot due to all the things happening to me.
The one with that crystal to be shot at top or activated otherwise with the killer lightning bolts....
ffs! No I don't want to look it up I want my memory to work fine again.
dm- what was it. No, not KIX, that was my bloodgate dm map which featured elaborate trap.
The hell was it called? not dm faith either....why am I looking at f now, I don't think it was f.
Something changed with me, its like my eye color changed too (or again).
Not Reactor despite there being one....that was the mine map by Jeremy War, and I still remember the other 221 exclusive map Keep.
I can't believe this.
I'm done. I'm useless and on borrowed time.
But I don't think I played this map ever at least not fully. Maybe I saw glimpse but I'd swear the beta I played had Villa2 instead. But I dunno 100 percent. Its just I remember healpod being different in few ways. Maybe it will become clear once the beta healpod from his version also gets inspected. But I am sure the main version I played was older. This has even one more map split into two it seems.
edit: yea well it seems to be a version identical to that magazine one, as indeed there are four isvkran maps instead of three.
The beta I played had also chizra split differently and vortex2 and nyleve seemed to be in one map...
I know this is not *that* beta but it might be the closest to it until now.

The map I couldn't remember was DM-Cobalt of course. But yea...
honestly speaking, it does show that roninmastafx was wrong with about everything he said....I mean nearly nothing about those pre-release versions turned out to be true, he mostly got his info from the gw press strategy guide and made up the rest....
because why would he not know about DmSolaris?

If it's a French edition of Unreal... did it have anything unusual in terms of disc art or box art? How to tell it apart?

Re: DmSolaris search
It was just a speculation it could have been sold there, and if it was it was most likely a mistake. Either way this is one of the last press versions ever sent to people/reviewers etc.Victor Delacroix wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 9:50 am If it's a French edition of Unreal... did it have anything unusual in terms of disc art or box art? Faiya has this but it has a price, together with everything else he has. But its being worked out apparently. Screenshots/photos were shown. The disc is unmarked except for inscriptions, this one wasn't a store ready version that's for sure.
Still, its possible one such version was sold and that its what that votlan bonus disc was also based on given it was based on a pre-release Vortex Rikers.
This version has four ISV Kran maps for some reason, on the disc all files are in the MS Dos format, the password is unique (most likely Epic purged the passwords after beta leaks so this thing needs to be cracked). The 200 version runs DmSolaris, verified and screenshots provided by faiya already. Probably same counts for all the other maps. They all range from late march to very early may in dates.
I wonder if the "ISVKran" map is like a leftover like Found98 was in the other beta, or that its a separate/unseen map. isvkran4 might have pupaes too. Given that this is close to the release version it might even be possible to recompile unreali.u (verified to contain kill the cow, the latest ever iteration) on version 200 using the editor and some meddling. No KTC maps in this version but the gametype is there fully coded still. No KTC Morbias or Morbfanza unfortunately but it can be easily re-made. Again the map list is identical just in MS Dos names. We do not know yet 100 percent who made Solaris, but as I said I have a surprising theory that needs to be confirmed by faiya first. But it can be other people that Inoxx also suggested. But this one he didn't suggest because it wasn't that obvious.
We'll have to see. This is not the GW Press version, so who knows what kind of changes are in this one.
Its funny because the GW press one had only two isvkran maps, deck4 was unplayable/skipped altogether. Really weird how they kept splitting/merging maps at the time.
I mean I played a version where nyleve and vortex2 were in one map and there's still evidence for that in the map itself with that silence trigger at the start and for the music to start after again.
And Trench and isvdeck4 were once one map too.
edit: Also that it was confirmed this version is the one featured in the screenshots of "Unreal Dreamcast" it is kind of safe to assume they wanted to port this particular version of Unreal to Dreamcast and maybe Solaris would in the end become a dreamcast exclusive?

Re: DmSolaris search
Huh, reportedly Solaris is by Cliff Bleszinski. Even though the geometry is a little sloppier in my opinion than most maps from him.
So it is still possible that this and healpod was once the same concept then and done by the same guy.
But strange really that nobody remembered it was Cliff, I couldn't ask him of course himself.
Part of me thought it might have been like Inoxx said or that it was from Eric Reuter still as perhaps his last level batch.
Given that he made many of those decayeds maps for unreal psx. Either way that's not the case then. Its Cliff again so I suppose we might have a "Klaris" situation fully repeated then.
I wonder if DmSplash was also by Cliff. Inoxx confirmed he didn't make it, despite people associating it with him. Its possible it was also Cliff then. He seemed to make a lot of quicker dm maps too.
Someone should ask him still. Because we do not know the author (the wiki is wrong and so are the conversion maps - and rufx for that matter with his nonsense).

Why did you change the date of the resaved version back to its original date? I mean this way noone can tell the difference between the two except one will give error on later versions of Unreal?Victor Delacroix wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 1:34 pm DmSolaris is now part of Fission, alongside Tulane and a set of maps by Mick Beard:

There's already an explanation in the readme for why it got resaved so why change the date too?

That's not what file date implies. If its explained in the readme then especially its fine because of that. Why would you pander to n00bs who will think this way? I'm tired of constantly having to explain myself so I'll put it bluntly...
Because that's how I see fit.
And from now on, that's the only explanation you personally are ever going to get.

Re: DmSolaris search
Looking at screenshots again, I seem to find a weird similarity between some of Solaris' corridors and that of Elsinore. Like its been simply copied over and retextured which reminds me of Ariza/Ceremony situation or "laddertest/e3l3 last part" in unreal psx. laddertest was used in the end in the rework for e1l8 but that went from techy into temple in e3l3.
