Hello everyone! Good to be a part of the population of people who love Unreal games.
I have been trying to install the game to play again after decades of neglect.
I have tried the directory download, the iso disk trick, I even bought the original cd on ebay, and a cd drive to install it.
Nothing seems to work. I am using windows 11.
I wish it were still available on steam. I feel useless not knowing anything about coding or modifying shortcut pathways.\
I think my best course of action is to install it using an emulator of windows 98.
One user reported installing it under a separate windows user account? I don't see how that could work, but I am willing to try anything at this point.
Thanks for any help you can offer, except telling me to clean the cd. pffft, i blow a raspberry in your general direction if you even thought of it.

Re: Unreal Installation
You say it doesn't work. What is actually happening when you try? Does the installer not work? Does it fail midway?
Unreal's original installer was a 16bit piece of software, you might be encountering the annoying problem that retrocompatibility with 16bit has been lost when Windows became 64bits only and only retained 32bit compatibility. Hence the installer cannot be launched.
Fortunately, this can easily be worked around by exploring the game disc in your CD drive and copy/pasting the game's files wherever you want them installed on your main drive. This bypasses the installation process completely, causing no problem whatsoever. You will just have to create your shortcuts yourself.

You must construct additional pylons.

Re: Unreal Installation
I had a problem installing version 200 on Win11. I extracted the ISO file, but the installation window simply didn't appear, and the process was stuck.
It turned out to be quite simple. Right-click on the "setup.exe" process (in Task Manager, under the "Details" tab), and from the context menu, select "Analyze Wait Chain."
There, I found that "nvcontainer" was causing issues, specifically, "Instant Replay" was preventing the installation from proceeding.
In the same window, I selected "nvcontainer" and terminated the process. The installation instantly continued.

Re: Unreal Installation
Interesting. I'm sure many people will find this helpful actually. Most people simply copy the files from the disk and run them without installing though.Skaarj wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 6:04 am I had a problem installing version 200 on Win11. But there are some versions of Unreal (mostly bootlegged russian versions) which don't have the files readily on disk and people can't install those anymore often...
