This is a widespread problem nowadays, and it might be scaring away new players:
Unreal runs choppy or way too fast on modern hardware. There are mainly 3 reasons:
1. Vertical sync disabled: This triggers an Unreal rendering bug: when the FPS is very high, like way above 100 the game itself is going to run faster.
A solution would be to request vertical sync ON by default in U227.
2. CPU's with advanced power management features, especially in laptops. (Intel SPeedStep, AMD Cool&Quiet etc.) These are incompatible with Unreal that needs a constant flow of CPU cycles. I can't think of a way to avoid this in 227. The only solution I know is disabling these power management features.
3. Dual-core/SMP incompatibility. Unreal tends to run slower and choppy rather than better on dual code/SMP systems. A nice solution would be to OR make U227 SMP compatible (Which probably will be difficult) or simply set the U227 Unreal.exe to only use processor 1. (Technically known as Processor 0)
You can do so with the dual core fix.

Re: Unreal running too fast or with choppy perform
Whenever I turn on VSYNCH Unreal reacts with high lag. I think it would better to default-CAP the FPS... same effect but no lag.1. Vertical sync disabled: This triggers an Unreal rendering bug: when the FPS is very high, like way above 100 the game itself is going to run faster.
A solution would be to request vertical sync ON by default in U227.

Lag with VSync? Never heared of. It works fine here. (OpenGL) It always did, with Rage128, Radeon and different GeForce cards.Whenever I turn on VSYNCH Unreal reacts with high lag.
