This thread is dedicated to all UT fans around the Globe and - for those that live inside a computer - The Matrix!
I will keep this strictly brief - All this work is exclusively done by user PorcusGrunzus, audiophile and fantastic friend.
He went thru the entire Unreal discography and "remastered" all of them, in his words, "Re-Engineered", what this means, with professional tools, he gave restored sound to all the Music tracks of every Unreal game, the low quality samples from UT2004 (ogg files), to the 8-Bit PCM samples from UT99 and Unreal 98, they have all been given a perceptive overhaul that will please your ears.
In this instance, what you will listen to, is the best version of the Unreal Anthology soundtrack, to date, ever!
Let's unbox 'em!

Mentionable notes about this release:
Unreal Tournament was always one of my favorite gaming soundtracks ever since I started to game. Same can be said about Unreal. The soundtrack is just so unique and I find this tracker music seriously amazing. I can listen to this stuff all day long.
However... I often found the music from various tracker programs to be lacking in "quality". Which stems from multiple factors. The music consists only out of samples and "programing" and the way they can be exported into PCM/WAV streams can vary greatly and these tools also
offer many different settings. Most people most likely just use the standard OpenMPT export. I did this too for a long time. But recently I got the itch for remastering and "re-recording" all the music in the highest quality possible while staying true to the original sound.
On top of that I also wanted to improve tracks by adding better fades, doing slight edits, and restore unused sections and patterns from the tracks. Not many know it but the way these tracker files are composed, makes it possible to restore and change unused paths and also
perhaps fix problems that the original tracks have. Technically you can change ANYTHING including samples but I didnt do this. I wanted the sound to stay true to the original. I only wanted to do remasters and improvements without changing the tracks.
As always, I have high standards and tend to be too perfectionistic for my own good... I present you here crystal clear 96khz 24bit cuts of the whole soundtrack featuring ALL tracks and even adding bonus tracks on top! These bonus tracks mostly consist out of extended mixes,
which also use unused secret patterns and new cues that most probably wont know. Some of these mixes I also did for fun just because I felt like doing it. CD1 includes all the main tracks, which are almost completely unchanged. I just added better fades because as you know,
most tracks just suddenly cut off, since almost all are programed to be loopable. There were also 2 tracks, which had like 1-2 pieces excluded for some reason. Since to me it was a waste to do a seperate version for this and they also fit perfectly into the track, I decided to restore them.
90% of all people wont notice the different. There is only like a single little piece (Around 5 seconds) more in the track such as additional build up or whatever. Everything sounds seemless and in these 2 cases I wasnt even sure why they were excluded. Perhaps was just human error when programing these.
Oh yeah and to say something about the mastering/export process. I used the highest quality export settings possible and also used higher volume ramping. The default OpenMPT volume ramping causes several clipping and error noises for the used samples. To be honest it is
probably just because these samples are rather old and also uncommon. I mean lets be honest, the Unreal franchise always had a very unique sound, if you know what I mean. These samples used are really odd, but what the artists have done with these is amazing. Also keep
in mind, while my release has 80% of all clipping and noise problems fixed, I didn't fix all. Some samples had deliberate noise crackling in them, which is weird but then again it kinda has its oldschool charme. I decided to leave it and not replace those samples since this
would have altered the sound drastically (And it is also insane work). Volume was another problem, which I however sorted out. Basically some of the tracks had really high clipping issues due to way too loud samples used. Since I didnt want to really change the original sound of the music,
I decided to only reduce the volume so far, that it stops clipping and the music has more dynamics. I usually had to reduce the sample volume by 1-3dB. Depended on the track. On top of that I also changed the volume of all tracks to be around 89dB, so that everything mostly has the same volume without
ANY clipping! My quality standards are really high. I know that modern music is usually 95+dB (Which is too high in my opinion, topic loudness war) but I decided to leave them at 89dB since this was also the sweet spot for them to have no clipping. If you really need them louder on your soundsystem, try
ReplayGain.
I also made a new cover for this release, which however is mostly based on a soundtrack cover art I found online by someone else. I did do my own version of it in a similar style and higher quality images, to also reflect my release.
All in all I had great fun with this release. It took me 50 hours to complete for Unreal Tournament ONLY but it was worth it. And yes, Unreal+NaPali+Beta will follow too, but probably with less bonus mixes but who knows. I will probably also make a standard CD Quality and MP3 Quality release.
I know that most dont care about high resolution. 96khz is generally insane and something I rarely master at. But due to how the music was sampled and interpolated, it actually makes sense since there are information ABOVE even 48khz. Either way, for an audiophile this soundtrack here is probably
heaven in terms of audio quality and compared to other soundtrack rips from the game.
Here is a tracklist with some additional notes for people who are interested into the whole project. I noted a few extra things to know about the tracks.
CD1\01. Unreal Tournament Title.flac
CD1\02. Unreal Tournament Menu.flac
CD1\03. The Course.flac
CD1\04. Nether Animal.flac
CD1\05. Into The Darkness.flac | This version has 2 restored minimal patterns. You most likely wont be able to tell the difference. ~15 seconds longer.
CD1\06. Enigma.flac | Concept wisely this is a Unreal music track composed by Basehead. Also sometimes known with the subtitle Unreal Addon.
CD1\07. Run.flac
CD1\08. Mission Landing.flac
CD1\09. Fire Breath.flac | This is the only track with even higher volume ramping because the beginning "stomping" sample clips a lot with lower volume ramping.
CD1\10. Seeker.flac | Concept wisely this is a Unreal music track composed by Basehead. Also sometimes known with the subtitle Unreal Addon.
CD1\11. Foregone Destruction.flac
CD1\12. BotMCA #10.flac
CD1\13. Razorback (Unreal Mix).flac | Unreal Mix because before the UT version, there was a "original" version, which is on the bonus disc.
CD1\14. Cannonade.flac
CD1\15. Mechanism Eight.flac | I fixed the ending here. Was broken for some reason. Now fades out without the random sample at the end.
CD1\16. Save Me.flac
CD1\17. Underworld 2.flac | Concept wisely this is a Unreal music track composed by Basehead. Also sometimes known with the subtitle Unreal Addon.
CD1\18. Lock.flac | This track has 1 restored pattern that was discarded or forgotten. It only changes 7 seconds around the middle of the track.
CD1\19. Superfist.flac
CD1\20. Skyward Fire.flac
CD1\21. Colossus.flac
CD1\22. BotPack #9.flac
CD1\23. Phantom.flac | Ending was broken here too with a empty information pattern between the fade out. Fixed.
CD1\24. Three Wheels Turning.flac
CD1\25. Seeker 2.flac | Concept wisely this is a Unreal music track composed by Basehead. Also sometimes known with the subtitle Unreal Addon.
CD1\26. Go Down.flac
CD1\27. Organic.flac | Technically not in the game and only in the game files. But it plays in the PS2 version if I read correctly online.
CD1\28. Ending.flac
CD2 - Bonus\01. Unreal Tournament Title (Introduction Mix).flac | Basically the original Title + the Woman UT introduction. Here for Nostalgia reasons. Made this mostly for myself.
CD2 - Bonus\02. Unreal Tournament Title (Beta Version).flac | This version of the title was only in the Beta version of the game. It should also be noted there were several unused patterns here, but I decided not to restore it. Mostly a different intro part.
CD2 - Bonus\03. Fire Breath (Beta Version).flac | Difference is rather small with only one noticeable sample in the main part being different. Still, I almost like this more than the original. Sometimes also refered to as Kharisma.
CD2 - Bonus\04. Colossus (Extended Mix).flac | Extended version I made because I like the track, can be said about all the tracks. There were also several unused patterns that I programed in. This goes for almost all tracks following so I wont say it again.
CD2 - Bonus\05. BotPack #9 (Extended Mix).flac
CD2 - Bonus\06. Phantom (Totentanz Mix).flac | Supposed to be a "calmer" rhythmic version that gothics would vibe to. (...) Thats why its Totentanz, get it? Ehh... Love you Gothic and Industrial scene!
CD2 - Bonus\07. The Course (Extended Mix).flac
CD2 - Bonus\08. Cannonade (Alternative Mix).flac | Same length but with different patterns used. Several were unused and I put them back in or replaced them. Gives the track a "alternative" feeling, hence the name.
CD2 - Bonus\09. Razorback.flac | Original first version.
CD2 - Bonus\10. Mechanism Eight (Hidden Mix).flac | Now this was quite a hassle to do. I had to change quite a lot of patterns and programed sections to "restore" this hidden section. Quite fascinating, sounds almost like a different track.
CD2 - Bonus\11. Organic (Extended Mix).flac
CD2 - Bonus\12. Run (Extended Mix).flac
CD2 - Bonus\13. Underworld 2 (Extended Mix).flac
CD2 - Bonus\14. Nether Animal (Cosmic Mix).flac | Supposed to be a more "cosmic" version with more calm space ambient parts. Doesn't actually sound too different from the original version but oh well.
CD2 - Bonus\15. Save Me (G-Mix).flac | This can be found in the game files but it is nowhere used in the game. Interesting different mix of Save Me.
CD2 - Bonus\16. Superfist (Epic Mix).flac | Includes a amazing epic metal section that was left out?! WHY??? This version sounds way better than the original and it is truly epic.
CD2 - Bonus\17. Mission Landing (Extended Mix).flac
CD2 - Bonus\18. Skyward Fire (Extended Mix).flac | This is probably my proudest selfmade mix and also took several hours. Yes, it runs for 10minutes and sounds awesome. It also has a 2-3minute long extra section that I restored and programed in! Seriously fascinating.
CD2 - Bonus\19. Ending (Epic Mix).flac | Similar to the Superfist mix. Has more extensive buildups and epic metal sounds. Makes me wonder why they were removed. Maybe they wanted to get that metal feeling away from the OST?
CD2 - Bonus\20. Room Of Champions.flac | Unused track that can be found in the game files. Maybe was supposed to be the Ending track at some point in development. No idea.
Other notes barely anyone will care about:
I used 1000us volume ramping, except 3000 for Fire Breath. Interpolation technique was Sinc + Low Pass. I also considered Linear or Cubic for some tracks but then generally felt like the tracks sounded too different. I was going for a more streamlined experience so it was the "highest" quality setting for all.
Export was 96khz at 32bit but I made the final mastering and edits in Audacity and sampled it at 24bit with dithering. I usually dont use dithering at 24bit but seeing as this music is a bit rough and noisy and, well, "old" I thought its a good idea. What else can I say... No idea. If there are questions ask.
As a special insight into the project:
I was also thinking of making other mixes. Especially of Foregone Destruction and Title/Menu. But it just didnt really end up as something I like. I didnt have any unused patterns for Foregone Destruction and seeing as it is my favorite UT track, I think it is perfect as it is. So I scraped this idea.
And the Title and Menu tracks just didn't end up as anything. There were unused patterns but I just couldn't build anything that sounds interesting or good. Aside of that, there are already 3 different versions on this release. Of the Title at least. The menu had no unused patterns and is short anyway. So yeah...
No dice to remix this.

Mentionable notes about this release:
So here we go again. After Unreal Tournament, it was time for the Unreal soundtrack. It should be noted that this release contains Unreal, Na Pali Addon, Beta exclusive tracks and several bonus tracks ranging from 1995 engine demo tracks to other material related to Unreal.
Almost everything that applied to Unreal Tournament also applies here so it would be a waste to write it all down again. Just read through the Unreal Tournament documentation for technical information on the re-engineering process. Unreal and Unreal Tournament use the exact same modplug tracker music.
I would really just repeat myself because I didnt do anything difference except little things. These little things in the following part.
Unlike Unreal Tournament, most of the Unreal tracks have several sections, such as one for ambiance, sneak, tension, etc. I mixed all these kind of tracks into one track. I almost always left them the way they were arranged. Sometimes I did swap some sections around, since it was obvious it
was supposed to be the intro or whatever. I always arranged them so, that they faded the most natural way into each other. In a very few cases I also restored unused patterns, if they fit into the track without sounding alien and were most likely forgotten or left away for better ingame use. Same as
with Unreal Tournament.
I also made bonus tracks but this time I only added 4 mixes of my own, which for my standards is rather low. There honestly just wasnt much to remix or restore since most of the unused patterns are unused for a reason either because they are duplicates or they have been used in other tracks.
Initially I had 6 mixes but 2 were discarded because I noticed that basically they were used somewhere else. The Escape From Na Pali Ending for example has several hidden patterns. Which however were all used with even more content in Commencement from the beta. This was often the case with tracks.
The beta game also had many slightly different versions of later released tracks. However, in almost all cases this was only like 1 section being left away or the section not being programmed in yet. There were 3 exceptions though. These tracks are at the end of the beta soundtrack part. They all have in common,
that the last 1/3 of the track or section is completely unique and cannot be found anywhere else. The beginning is always the same though.
Another thing that should be mentioned, that this Unreal soundtrack was way more tedious to master than Unreal Tournament. This is because as mentioned before, most tracks consist out of several sections such as ambiance, sneak, tension, etc. Not only did I had to stitch all these pieces together properly, without
sounding off or unfitting, which sometimes also needed reprogramming of the tracker files but also another huge and difficult thing was volume balancing. You see most of these ambient pieces were way lower in volume than the tension ones, which made all the tracks absolutely unbalanced and all over the place
by default. Not even ReplayGain can fix this because it only works on track to track basis, not changing the volume dynamically inside tracks. Which means often ReplayGain didnt help at all with this kind of music. On top of this, they also have very low clipping levels, which means many of these tracks already
start clipping at 90dB. So even with using ReplayGain both on Unreal or Unreal Tournament caused tons of volume issues while trying to listening to the tracks peacefully since the volume was all over the place. This comes from the unique nature of the music and samples used. Anyway, in Unreal this was even
more a problem because of the different sections, which means I had to try making them sound similar on a volume perception of the listener and that while NOT making them too loud and keeping the natural balance of more melodic ambiant parts and hard stomping drums and bass in tension sections. This was
definitely the biggest challenge, especially with Unreal. Less so with Tournament but still. Many of the tracks even clipped by default due to WAY too loud sample volume set inside the tracker files. Enough of that. I bet you get the picture. Its a huge deal in this case. I usually dont bother much with volumes if
possible when I rip music since it usually does more harm than good and is a waste with tools like ReplayGain but in this unique case here, I definitely did have to put A LOT of work into volume balancing and mastering. This was a challenge.
This being said, the rest of the information you get from the Unreal Tournament documentation. Now here comes the tracklist with extra notes.

CD3 - Beta\12. Unreal Suspense.flac
CD3 - Beta\13. Secret Area.flac
CD3 - Beta\14. Child 3.flac | From rare leak, unknown origin, presumably from a very early beta build.
CD3 - Beta\15. Unreal Title (Beta Version).flac | From rare leak, unknown origin. Complete unique track that has nothing to do with the final Unreal Title, probably was placeholder in the Beta.
CD3 - Beta\16. Dusk Horizon (Beta Version).flac | The last third is completely different and unique compared to the final version.
CD3 - Beta\17. All Hallows Sunset (Beta Version).flac | The last third is completely different and unique compared to the final version. This is known as Skytown but also mca2. Different earlier versions of All Hallows Sunset. I also merged all unique parts.
CD3 - Beta\18. Dig (Beta Version).flac | The last third is completely different and unique compared to the final version.
CD3 - Beta\19. Wargate (Beta Version).flac | From rare leak, unknown origin. Slightly different and shorter version of Wargate.
CD4 - Bonus\01. Unreal T.flac | Used in the Unreal Engine tech demo in 1995.
CD4 - Bonus\02. Bluff Eversmoking (Unreal #13 Version).flac | Was in the core Unreal game but was never used anywhere. Seems to be a different version of Bluff Eversmoking but the second half is completely unique.
CD4 - Bonus\03. Underworld (Unreal Tech Demo Version).flac | Used in the Unreal Engine tech demo in 1995. Its name was just Unreal but its a minimally different and shorter version of Underworld.
CD4 - Bonus\04. Watcher Of The Skies (Early Version).flac | Could be found in the beta game but maybe also shareware version? I dont have this so no idea. For some reason it was called Chizra Shareware Version.

CD4 - Bonus\06. Dreams Untrue.flac | Was used for the Unreal game trailer in 1998.

CD4 - Bonus\08. Nightvision.flac | Original 1996 version by Sandman/Alexander Brandon.
CD4 - Bonus\09. Isotoxin.flac | Original full version.
CD4 - Bonus\10. Neve's Crossing (Alternative Mix).flac | One of my favorite tracks I decided to remix, also because there were many unused patterns. Really happy with the outcome. Tried to not let it be too different from the original.
CD4 - Bonus\11. Bluff Eversmoking (Extended Mix).flac | The track has many unused sections so I tried to make a Extended Mix of it. Worked out quite well. The end part is very experimental though and probably sounds quite odd but it was like that in the unused patterns.
CD4 - Bonus\12. Twilight Horizon (Supernova Mix).flac | Now this is probably my favorite achievement. Not only one of my favorite tracks, but this "Supernova Mix" that I did with re-arranging and using unused patterns is... Mindblowing in my opinion. Love it.
CD4 - Bonus\13. Vortex Rikers (Hidden Mix).flac | This is done only with unused patterns. I dont think they were used anywhere else. Sounds vastly different from the original and is basically a own track and also kinda serves as an outro track with its chilling long melody.
Changelog 2.0:

- Added some new tracks. CD3 Track 14, 15, 16, 20. All based on some leaks that are quite unknown.

them as well. They are all on CD4. I also added several other bonus tracks such as web downloads from Kevin Riepl which had HQ tracks, Remixes, unused B-Sides as well as cinematic music. Kevin Riepl's website downloads also had
slightly higher audio quality. Basically the ingame tracks usually were around MP3 128kbits, while his website files were around 192kbits, but that is sadly the best available. I know the audio quality could be
better but I had no better sources. This is the best and most complete OST possible right now. I also fixed errors in many tracks and added proper fades and such. I often wish, this game would have gotten a
HQ official OST but my release is the best that is possible. I will also add a seperate Soundtrack release for Unreal Championship 2 (Since all tracks are exclusives) and also do a UT3 release.
Changelog V1.1:
- Improved the mastering for all tracks with RX9 (Focusing on delossifying, declipping, declicking, decrackling and denoising).
- Edited the cover to look a bit more official and better.
Changelog V2.0:
- Reworked the entire release (Removed Starsky Partridge's tracks since they are all already on my UT Championship soundtrack in way better quality, renamed tracks without proper titles to the map name in that they play, changed track order.)
- Further improved the audio quality of the delossified tracks via Cleaning Lab and Unchirp VST with the result of more brilliance, less compressed sound, less artifacts, less noise, less hiss. Also made some additional few declicks.
- Made EQ changes to all tracks focusing on more heights and less bass since the original tracks had WAY too much. Changes are different from track to track since I listened to them on the monitor one by one.

Mentionable notes about this release:
I know, most will wonder why I made a seperate Unreal Championship release even though all the music is included on UT2004. Well, this music here is actually based on Bandcamp lossless masters recently released by Starsky Partridge. They sound notably better and there is even exclusive bonus stuff. Some tracks
even have unique new sections. I also renamed the tracks so that they have the name of the specific map they play in. "LevelXY" is just really boring as a title. I also tried to make the order so that it makes a bit more sense like with intro and outro and all. The concept of the soundtrack is actually
quite interesting. And finally I also remastered everything in RX9. The Sketch tracks are demo tracks that were never finished.

Type Of OST: Complete
How Many Of The Source Audio Files Were Used?: 100%
Track Title Source: Official
Available As: FLAC, MP3
Rip Year: 2021
Assemble Time: ~20 hours
OST Version: 3.0
Mentionable notes about this release:
This is Unreal Championship 2. Has similar tracks to UT2004. I used both Xbox but also Kevin Riepl web downloads as source. The web downloads had better sound quality. This is typical older Xbox ADPCM with really bad heights.
UPDATE! I actually found LOSSLESS WAV masters of the tracks in an old beta build of the game that was leaked online in 2020. The original WAV tracks were next to the compressed versions so I guess that build stems from a time
when they started prepping the game for release and compressed all the stuff. Luckily for us there were still the original lossless masters of the tracks present and they sound great! Such a surprising and happy find.
Release was updated to 2.0 to reflect the source change for the tracks. Now I wish someone leaked a beta build of Unreal Championship 1, 2003 or 2004 that still got the uncompressed original compositions in the files, hehe.
One can still dream...
Changelog 2.0:
- Replaced my gamerip with lossless masters found in a leaked alpha build

Mentionable notes about this release:
I made this as an extension to the OFFICIAL UT3 Soundtrack. You should definitely buy it if you do not have it yet. It is absolutely insane and one of my favorite official OSTs. This is an extension in a way, in which I
decided to make "Game Mixes" or in other words how the music can be heard in the game. This usually ends in way longer "sequnced" mixes with patterns, that cannot be heard on the official OST. Tracks that were 1:1 the same in the game
and the released Original Soundtrack I excluded since they would have been redundant. This might be really interesting for fans of the Soundtrack since it gives the tracks a different and more "Original Sound Version" kind of vibe.
As a bonus I also added the Kevin Riepl website downloads, which includes tracks, that cannot be found on the officialy released OST. So basically it is the perfect extension for anyone who likes the official UT3 OST.
Oh right, CD2 also includes a unreleased UT3 Theme remix which was only released on a Epic Games promo web download release.
Changelog V2.0:
- Improved the mastering for all tracks with RX9 (Focusing on delossifying, declipping, declicking & decrackling).
- Added the entire official soundtrack which was also declicked and has some other mixing fixes.
- Added 3 bonus tracks from UT4 that fit well to UT3, also moved the Unreleased Mix to this bonus part.
- Removed one track since it got redundant with the official soundtrack being included.
- Slightly adjusted some of the track tag titles (Like adding UT3 Remix).
- Edited the cover to look a bit more official and better.
Changelog V2.1:
- Further improved the audio quality of the delossified tracks (Part II-IV) via Cleaning Lab and Unchirp VST with the result of more brilliance, less compressed sound, less artifacts. Also made some additional few declicks.
---- Fun Facts ----
Fun Fact 1. Porcus - used to - refer to the categories/folders as "CDs", but they do not fit in a CD... (They surpass the 80 Minute mark for CD-DA music)
Fun Fact 2. Soundtrack for Unreal 2 is not included - Not fun?
Fun Fact 3. He spent over 500 hours on the making of this Remaster/Re-Engineering
Fun Fact 4. He is remastering Necros module tracks as we speak (The composer for Isotoxin, Mech 8), the modules are dramatically more Stereo than the original - like Alexander Brandon's conversion of Necros' Isotoxin to Unreal. No confirmations whether this will be finished or it is a For-Fun experiment
Fun Fact 5. Did you know that All the Tracks (and Modules) amount to a total of 311 Tracks, with a duration of 21 Hours, 10 Minutes and 7 Seconds?
Fun Fact 6. Did you know that Porcus mixed a couple of new modules/tracks in the Bonus category for Unreal Tournament and Unreal using unused samples of existing tracks?
Fun Fact 7. Did you know that Porcus posts more Game clean-ups than this one in his main thread, where you can access his main Filen Archive? It requires registration.
