It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!

ok so it is just Damian. I wonder if we can call Kane the new character from tech demo instead since he doesn't have assigned name.

I suppose he could be used as player character if the psa files for the regular ps2 characters are used.

I wonder if that guy had any maps or anything else from the era still.

funnily enough, I found an old local magazine yesterday and it had an article about the UE2 Tech Demo, and this screenshot I never saw before so I scanned it and cleaned it up.
Just thought how I'd wish we had the model, the timing is... Unreal

Edit: I also did a nice upscale of the extra low-res artwork picture we have

yea sometimes timing is very peculiar but thank you for these. It really fits together well.

It should be fairly simple if there aren't polygon problems. I suggested trying using the psa of say the kane(damian) character which might be actually
ut_ps2_male.PSA and the psk of the tech demo one from that archive Face.psk or move.psk.

I can't try and test it as I don't have the windows laptop. And won't have.

you can also try to use it with ut_ps2_skaarj.PSA which might be hilarious.

I plan on trying to rig the model, I just haven't had the chance this week. If the ps2/ut2004 skeletons don't work, maybe the Unreal Warfare one would.

Edit: It looks like it will need some tweaking, but the model will work nicely for both UT and UT2004.

That's good news.

Maybe also a version for 227 Unreal should be produced for players as well once that's done.

But what tweaking does the model itself need? Are there some issues like with some models gaps might appear?

Mostly issues with the hands, since each individual finger has bones and the other models don’t.

A new beta version of Unreal has been acquired - it seems to be from when the game was getting closer to release. Taking a quick look, a few differences include a version of QueenEnd that has you fight multiple skaarj enemies, DmSolaris, and a combined version of the ISV Kran decks.

The password hasn't been found yet so you can't play it directly, but the maps I've looked at open with older versions of the game.

DmVilla2 also originally had to be resaved with version 200. Can you guys do this with DmSolaris so that a ready-compatible version is made or maybe with all the maps too and uploaded separately, so that people who don't have old versions can run them?

As I incicated it might be possible to recompile and resave unreali.u from this beta within the 200 version UnrealED as well to create a frankenbuild until the password can be cracked or tracked down where it is within the executable (compare it against the other beta maybe).

Does the QueenEnd have the floating platforms still or was that already removed? Those movers and the webbing casing around the Queen...

So that separate isvkran map is the old one I guess, but does it include the modern deck1 in it as well? I wonder why then....I mean why did they keep the single map there too? Maybe for developement reasons in case something had to be changed/reverted at the last minute to keep a "master copy" before the split?

Are there pupaes in deck4 I wonder?

user: delacroix
pass: mvous
case sensitivity doesn't matter

Are you kidding me? I mean this works like those keygens? In b4 someone like luke will theorize you traveled back in time and put username delacroix there or had Epic put it there...or that its like some hack of...The Matrix....

EDIT: I didn't notice gamesharder post I got delayed in typing this due to other things....happening in the meantime.

Yea so this system works by seemingly random generation. In that case some of the emissary passwords could have worked with user cyberlore instead but w/e, we don't know if it all didn't get reset.

It sounds like he gave his own Unreal Online Multiplayer Server access to the others.

Anyways someone should inspect the beta leftover actors. KillTheCow is there apparently so someone should make a quick map for it, for the May 7 beta I mean.

My download didn't finish so I can't check the config files. But is Ash still named Nick in this version or not? The one i played back then he was called "Nick".

Ah, dammit. The default ini doesn't seem to have the bot names in it though for some reason. There's also Menus.txt for some reason. Either way I wonder how old that other beta was, my guess is late march to early april then or something...we almost also had a march beta full (twice), but yea...it just failed to happen due to circumstances and someone then storing that cd in a storage that had its time expired and thus was emptied. But maybe whoever got it after emptying it, might still sell in in the future or something? Like this thing was...

Anyways it seems to me like the Delacroix username/password thing was done by that guy (whoever it is) to strike your ego and indeed I think you might like it when now everyone who has to access the beta will have to type your name in, right?

I wonder if there's any way to tell the build number of this, if the log shows it or what. Given that its similar to 200. Or the compilation date. That could still be found in some version of Tim's log even though its not always an indication (like the custom emissary builds or that the big beta leak was a beta built off version 99 which was at the time already outdated build but a stable one, etc).

I am looking through UnrealI.u in text editor as that's all I can do right now. There are many leftover beta actors still, like teleportproj but no peacemaker or translocator anymore. There is NitrogenSlith and I guess FireSlith too though. I remember there was a czech or slovakian website which listed all the unreal monsters and nitrogenslith and fireslith was among it which always made me wonder how did they get that. But it might have been a version close to this one then where they based their info on.

Its a shame that I never got the full March beta around 2008 due to comcast blocking volny around that time, I was also not so much on good terms with many people in the Unreal community so I didn't think of asking for help in taking over the communication for example.

Strangely UnrealI.int still contains strings for peacemaker and target etc.

MiniGunSentry is also still there and should be checked (perhaps it works properly/has some changes?).

I wonder...was FatnessTrigger ever used? And if for something then for what? I wonder if it was meant for some easter egg or some kind of other effect like maybe being blown out into space or whatever for some cutscene.

Also the impact sounds for the dispersion pistol are unique in this? From what I heard it sounds like those sparks effects that were inserted in that rare unreal trailer, the one that uses the footage from the leaked beta.

Can someone make a quick ktc map and test it then? Perhaps make altered morbias like was the case with one version? Just place cowshrines and set the teams and the gametype and that's it. If you can run the editor that is...otherwise yrex should be asked to make a wrapper for this version too for alternateed.
