Ah yes of course. I often find it difficult to tell the location from low res shots and distortions.

I found the site again of that little artwork of Gina that indicated my theory that she is canadian

Okay this is (kind of) new to me lol
So I looked more thoroughly this website, and found this image called "skaarjsymbol.jpg".

https://web.archive.org/web/19970415035 ... /ibig.html
It's in very good quality.
I've seen this symbol in a very unknown magazine before, but couldn't place it anywhere like, what's this? But know it makes more sense.
Very weird.
And apparently Erik De Neve made a snow Skaarj in march lol but unfortunately the images won't load in

Re: Unreal Image and Video Collection (Magazines, Beta & Pre-release shots, UT Beta, Box covers and much more!)
Its not necesarily Gina but more like the main character they intended. Also the Gina name only came up quite late in developement iirc. But yea. Also it means that she was incarcerated in Canada but that doesn't necesarily mean she was Canadian to begin with. She might be also partially native american, which would actually make sense.Gamesharder wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 5:02 pm I found the site again of that little artwork of Gina that indicated my theory that she is canadian

as for your other post, I did speak to Erik De Neve a long ago...wish you pointed me to this back then as I would have asked him if he still had that photo somewhere.
As for that Skaarj symbol...well I did see it before and I assumed it was related to perhaps another game, like y'know, Circle had pretty different design, I know this wasn't from Circle, but..something else maybe. It almost looks fitting into KHG. But yea....interesting find. Pretty different take.
EDIT: btw come to think of it, those rooms etc in the artwork might have been recreated at one point in developement for some example triggerlight maps and such...thinking about it. Or even for the actual intro that got cut at one point.

Re: Unreal Image and Video Collection (Magazines, Beta & Pre-release shots, UT Beta, Box covers and much more!)
I reorganized the magazines & gave them proper names one-by-one, so it's not a chaos there anymore.
This was a better way to organize them by title-year-month-issue-page.
The "UNK" tag means unknown... when I couldn't find any information.

I wanted to do this for a while now. I like things being organized, and this will be a great help for future projects.
Now I can do some statistics too.

As of right now ... there are:
- approximately 1500 pages of magazines featuring or mentioning Unreal or Unreal Tournament (rarely other Unreal Engine 1 games)
- 41 magazines have Unreal on their front cover
- there's nearly 15 different countries

Re: Unreal Image and Video Collection (Magazines, Beta & Pre-release shots, UT Beta, Box covers and much more!)
I tried to extract every image I could find on the Ad cd, here's some we've already seen, but these are in better quality (though some look a bit weird)
This one called bluff2-4-best, so this map really WAS the predecessor of Bluff Eversmoking.

This one called inoxx1, more evidence this is Cryox!

These next images you can see on like the UK Big Box (well, just a couple) and promotional material as well. These are in better quality as well than what we have, but they are a bit cropped, unfortunately. The dates are: 1998.04.08.

Here's your forcefield Leo!

I can finally see what it looks like an ammo box behind the field.
For reference, I believe this is THE advertisement they used the pictures for:

I also show the collages that were on the CD, they were too big to upload

I'd like to mention this CD is for Mac OS, but I don't have one, so I ran it via an emulator, Sheepshaver but it' a nightmare to use, so I only opened these files on Windows in Photoshop and exported them like that. Some I only renamed to png like the collages and that's it lol
So if anyone could check the CD out more in depth, that'd be appriciated.

Yea it would be good we had those versions instead too. But yea that's ammo, I believe the same ammo that is in ExtremeDark then at the same place? I mean it gets used in extremecore but for some reason someone had the smart idea to change it on may 6th.
Also...how is that a proof for Cryox? I mean any more than the word of Inoxx himself? I already posted his response at one point didn't I? And anyone should be free to ask him himself if I am suddenly seen not as trustworthy to relay that information.
Anyways I wonder really...
Btw did you show here before that trailer that was rather rare and showed an official footage from the leaked beta?
I wish we had ALL the betas used for the trailers/previews though. We only have one so far. Not any of the others that were used for the preview videos.
Well if you don't count some of the exclusive magazine ones but for those we don't have the full betas and most of the maps they showed. Like the vid showing 0.864 we don't have the maps at all (only default/test/emissary maps), we don't have most of the maps for 0.871 either. Only Ruins, Aztec and Moros (and fortressentrance separately).

OK but there was no discussion about it and MEGA is very resource heavy to just check for that. You should post a direct link to that from the other site/archive.org.

Re: Unreal Image and Video Collection (Magazines, Beta & Pre-release shots, UT Beta, Box covers and much more!)
Is it me or is this "mega" stuff no longer avaiable now?
So much for "keeping everythin' in one place".
I wanted to refer to some screenshots. I guess GamesHarder really did run away. Before it was revealed by Inoxx to be most likely fake, and before our argument, he did say that he will leave the community if it turns out this beta is fake but that he will still release dark earth..looks like maybe not that even.
He was in denial and told me initially there is like 15 percent chance despite himself having to admit that stuff looks copied and that even some things yrex noted this time didn't turn out to be entirely true. And how come yrex is not familiar with pre-220 versions if he played steele dawn on the original version too initialy in his coverage?
Weird they both didn't notice that the krall elite skin was modified by hand afterwards (masking fix), even though by size you can't tell the difference (just like small changes to models like in the nwfalcon beta were not detectable at first or even that it was a modified copy of alcapowned's models).
I mean both yrex and gamesharder made recreation of things from screenshots and now they were both denying this could be fake?
Well...looks like another loss then.
For the record, he was the one keeping me from revealing it at first after the login issue at OU was solved.
Also unrelated but someone should really fix the Unreal wiki and also change the wrong notion that DmSplash was by Inoxx. Its also most likely Pancho's work but unconfirmed. Inoxx never made DmSplash but he remembered the level.
edit: DmSplash had originally the author field unfilled, hence why there's a question about who made it and it wasn't Inoxx.

Well...it seems it works again so it was some temporary error...

Its still there.
EDIT: I can't find what I'm looking for its too slow. I wanted to point something out, I'm sure he must have the screenshots I wanted to refer to somewhere there. It should be stored elsewhere too.

I was able to recover some E3 documents from April 1999 when RTNP was in the making, along with some screenshots and ad materials.
They're all mirrored on MEGA, except for the documents.
Documents:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/vdotfz5j ... e3ls7&dl=0
It got some interesting lore I've never heard of, like the Abyss map being a Krall outpost.
Screenshots:
You probably have seen all of these, but they are in better quality:

And a Hi-res version of Malcolm from UT:

I remember once reading a similar summary but I don't think it was these exact documents. Where did you find these? Also...this is a very rare opportunity that I am here.
As you might have heard the floods in czech republic etc fucked everything up too. I had my things stored in the most affected area, so there's really nothing for me to go back to ever. And I'm starting to lose my sanity as we speak and I am not going to be fucking mistreated by anyone anymore...
anyways I saw this just now..lol the french totally unreal had used these "Tournament" covers

I hope they might have some betas too in a way. I did have some dreams while being in nature about what could possibly be the "child3" build. That there was like January 1998 proto based on around the engine of version 88 (hence it being unstable and buggy) and still had some of the "xmas 97" maps in it unlike the february beta.
Also why don't you make your may 98 videos public btw? You almost finished the playthrough too but stopped with serpent canyon iirc? Or did you do nalic as well I forgot...
Anyways....umm yea I just realize that the only trailer fully missing from youtube is the one found in that magazine, the one showing the february 98 version. Youtube should have it, you could even upload it yourself...I mean it is official footage from that beta anyways.

Maybe in the future... but I don't see the point, as of right now.Leo T_C_K wrote:Also why don't you make your may 98 videos public btw? Well I won't be around anymore. Especially if people I depend on end up stabbing me in the back each time too. I dunno when if ever I will return here now given my situation and the fact that the payment for this accomodation failed now. And it won't be survivable for long out there for me....
you didn't say what the reason for your private videos are anyways. I mean it could be interesting to a lot of people but I am not posting the links.
Either way that trailer should be posted. This is as much as I can care about it right now....

Re: Unreal Image and Video Collection (Magazines, Beta & Pre-release shots, UT Beta, Box covers and much more!)
It is an official trailer given the logos and everything. The reason it wasn't preserved is because of the identical name of the file as the later trailers, etc.
So from most sources it got overwritten and never preserved. Remember the french Unreal trailer also has weird music, etc. It is official unfortunately.
Back then also it wasn't trivial to make fan trailers. It needed a lot more than what was avaiable at the time. The first fan trailers started dropping in the early 2000s in practice. Remember how video editing was hard for people even in the early youtube days? lol seriously.
This is not a fan trailer.
Just another weird thing GTi people did. Just like them being responsible for this beta mess or so it would seem.
It is quite a common thing to do actually for publishers etc to make custom trailers. Trailers for half life blue shift also had weird/unique music. Its par the course.
Normal people didn't have the bandwith to make trailers back then, even within studios it took enormous effort to put together. And they had all those unused sounds/cds that they felt like using. Those weird cuts are there for effect/purpose with that sound each time. Its just a quirky 90s thing. Its no wonder that Epic didn't want this trailer to be there for too long though.
