It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!
If you have any further concerns feel free to contact me: Smirftsch@oldunreal.com

Re: New forums online
The quicklink of the forum works fine, but the main link on OU's main page points to https://www.wiki.oldunreal.com/ and responds with "Sorry, website not configured". So the wiki isn't dead but the main link doesn't work.

Re: New forums online
User registration crashes.
I enter my data to log in to the forum. I check the "remember me" box. I can write on the forum.
At some time, when navigating through the pages of the site, my registration automatically flies off. I am again forced to write my login details for the forum.
i think. that the bug appears if you go from this page to the main page of the site , and then select the "forums" tab"

Re: New forums online
I also have had issues with being logged out. Around weekly, maybe releated to that I'm using a portable browser on several computers so I copy my logged in session to other computers and use it there. I prefer the behavior of the old forum where I can stay logged in no matter how long and no matter how often I switch computers.Sergey wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 5:22 pm User registration crashes.

Re: New forums online
Is there a user option to set it to infinite? I prefer just scrolling down instead of "paging", simply because I can fulltext search the entire thread then w/o having to use the online search function - also much more practical for offline saving a thread... not really a biggie tho.
Hrhr I like the "alien" look of that color scheme. Even been using it on my own shit at times ;-) I do understand people disliking it tho.
Browser caches make a lot of problems, especially on apps. Originally invented to mainly cache static content that doesn't change and thus save bandwidth (useful scenario), caches are a major pain in the rear sometimes for application development - yes still today. When I'm too frustrated to bother tinkering I just open the dev menu and tick "disable caches"... meh
I have to disagree on that one.
IFrames are an ancient html entity allowing for dynamic content mixing completely -WITHOUT- javascript easily. I still use these today in application development to avoid having to use some crap JS framework (JS... evil... should die... etc). I understand the security issue that may arise from cross mixing sites which is why browsers today handle them with care over cross-domains - still, the only browsers/engines that have real issues with them are JavaFX / WebKit and (obviously) Safari, because... Apple... noob programmers who believe they know things better than the rest of the world ;-)
Now for the actual point I came on this thread for, I did notice that some links on the wiki also still point to the old forums. Is there a "search/replace all" for the wiki to fix that?

Re: New forums online
The link to the forums on the main page directs to http://www.oldunreal.com/phpBB3/ which my browser claims isn't secure (not https). It also doesn't seem to share the same cookies as it doesn't log me in automatically while the direct URL (https://forums.oldunreal.com/) does. And while the direct link does use https properly does firefox claims not all parts of the page are secure. Not sure if the latter is any real concern though.
Any reason why the main page doesn't just link to https://forums.oldunreal.com/?

They have their use cases, but that use case is definitely not "display the main content of a website". Putting a forum in an iframe means that the address bar will not update with the current path, meaning that people can't comfortably link to certain threads/posts, or even favorite them in their browsers.

Re: New forums online
actually it points to https://www.oldunreal.com/phpBB3 - which in this case results in http - I do not know yet why, since I made the according changes in the phpBB backend.Skywolf wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 11:16 pm The link to the forums on the main page directs to http://www.oldunreal.com/phpBB3/ which my browser claims isn't secure (not https). The "insecure" notification happens due to (profile/signature) images which point to http instead of https yet.
perhaps should have said "better than an iframe in this case." - which was the intention - I know that iframes have their purposeividyon wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:56 amThey have their use cases, but that use case is definitely not "display the main content of a website". MMh, perhaps some serverworks or something along that. Maybe nothing to worry about. Please keep me informed if happening again

Those are most likely migration issues yet, will check.ividyon wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 11:11 pm 00:10 GMT+1: Can't access Unreal Another Reality project thread: https://forums.oldunreal.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3734

Thanks, it's accessible now. Though the BBCode tags in the Alternate Pawns thread don't seem to work for some reason.

In other quirks... saw Dots posted, never interacted with the guy before so went to check out his posts... and clicking to see all his posts worked, but it also did THAT up top.

I think an option to edit old own posts would be fine...to fix links to pictures, dls e.g.

Re: New forums online
What the f...can anybody confirm this?
Start OU and going to the forum by clicking the respective links on mainpage...I'm not logged in:
Links "https://forums.oldunreal.com" or "https://www.oldunreal.com/phpBB3/" redirects to "http://www.oldunreal.com/phpBB3/"
After login it redirects to "https://www.oldunreal.com/phpBB3/"
Please stay at secure protocol...I think there is a cookie issue. I'm logged in and closing the tab or browser and restart the forum the auto login doesn't work. The cookie is saved but I think thats an issue between http and https protocol.
