Re: Visual artifacts on old laptop
Open Unreal.ini, scroll down to [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] and mess with those settings. Start from setting everything to False.

Re: Visual artifacts on old laptop
For now, i've tried UT, Deus Ex. All of them work badly or in software only. Maybe Unreal had some issues with Ati Rage cards? That's the base for my mobile chip.

ATI was known for their abysmal bad drivers, this was even worse for Mobile, but you should probably try the ATI Omega Drivers if they exist for that card and you can dig them up. At least those somewhat helped me back in those days.

Re: Visual artifacts on old laptop
All ATI cards before the ATI Rage 128 were terrible for 3D gaming.
Your best option would be the OMP OpenGL or Direct3D renderers. Back in the days, I've used them with my Rage 128 and those worked fine.

Re: Visual artifacts on old laptop
OMP stands for OldUnreal Multimedia Patch.
This was an unofficial update for Unreal and Unreal Gold to enable new OpenGL and Direct3D 9 rendering devices from the time before Unreal patch 227 was in development.
Download them here. These will probably work better with old hardware than Unreal 227.

Ofc, you can also try Unreal 227i. But I think the old OMP patches will give you a better chance of results with your ancient 8MB ATI Rage card.

Re: Visual artifacts on old laptop
OMP may be their only choice if they are running win98 on that hardware. win2k might work with 227 though.
