I absolutely loved this game. It came out in 1998 and I got it in 2001 I played it again and again for 12 years between 2001 to 2013 until my old pc broke, and even though I no longer have the game, i have fond memories of the game. I have played the game longer than any other game I played and consider it one of the best game I ever played.  With my busy life now i hardly have any time to play any games anymore, but memories of this game will live forever in me. DM servers are noticeably more populated than usually these days :-) Wish we had more servers with decent maps, mods, and network bandwidth.

UTeamFix deservers special mentioning. This mod automatically bans players for suiciding (which is actually a normal tactical method that helps to save some time in case of an inevitable death - e.g. in lava and other deadly zones). Although banning is only temporary (it says that you can return after 5 map changes), when you played 1 on 1, this silly and absolutely needless penalty implies that the other guy is supposed to either play deathmatch alone or wait until someone else joins the game (good luck with that). Whoever implemented this nonsense, he deserves a medal for a great achievement in absurd programming.

It also helped that this wan't a "free day/weekend trial", but a "download once, keep forever" deal of sorts.
