GT Interactive's Booth 1998, picture described as 1997 however it is clear that there are some Unreal presentations on some of the display screens.

Pretty interestig stuff.
Also, this statue is the most detailed physical re-creation of a Skaarj I've ever seen.
You noticed that the Skaarj statue doesn't look like the in-game Skaarj? That's how the Skaarj looked like ingame in 1995-1997 Alpha builds. And I've already found some sources which strictly say that Unreal was shown in E3 before it was released not only in 1997, but also in 1996 (that was when Unreal and the Unreal Engine were first revealed to the press). So 1997 being written there makes sense.GT Interactive's Booth 1998, picture described as 1997 however it is clear that there are some Unreal presentations on some of the display screens.

Yeah, I was shocked when I found this stuff. I had to do a very thorough search through the internet, and research as much information about Unreal's release including E3 and whatever else was going on at the time. I noticed in several locations, the Epic MegaBoards... and quite a few other blogs that people had gone to the "Unreleased Party" which was pretty much the night right before Unreal was released and shipped out. You're seeing the earliest footage available for what was the first official release of Unreal. To me it's very exciting to see the hand outs and everyone at the Lan Party testing it for the first time. I now know how many people were involved in it's release, and because I started playing roughly around 2001 I wasn't around for it's best times.
Now, this isn't all I am going to find. I am still researching about the Alpha and other things. This person on you tube probably doesn't even play Unreal anymore, but he had the videos. I have some other links and sources available after I finish scanning them for any important details. I've run into a few really good ones so far, but it takes a lot of time to research documents that are 14 years and older.

Blu, do you have Skype/Steam/MSN? If so, please provide me a method of contacting you directly via one of these. I think we should exchange our experiences.

That game is a DOS game, it was made by Epic Games and was some random project team. But it was the Unreal Engine, there isn't much background on that specific game but it is much older than Unreal I. It's mostly in 3d except for the hud.

It was published by Epic Games, not developed by them. That game is a DOS game, it was made by Epic Games and was some random project team. But it was the Unreal Engine, there isn't much background on that specific game but it is much older than Unreal I. It's mostly in 3d except for the hud.
Not Unreal Engine.

Re: Gathering 'OLD' Documents for Unreal...
Hmm yeah, well I must say the source coming directly from Epic Game's website is quite convincing. They show this as one of their games, so I striked out those links above. But there really isn't much documentation on that specific game, and it is for DOS.
Now, believe it or not... there is a game from 1992 that was made for DOS called Stunt Island. That was fully 3d, it isn't Unreal Engine. But it's good proof of the technology advancements made by then. If you guys are interested in this, you might find it to be something like... Flight Simulator or... Rollercoaster Tycoon or a little like Minecraft in creativity.
