The Bounty Hunter mod

Post by Leo T_C_K »

Somehow I assumed this mod was known/common but now seeing it not on this site or hyper's or whatever makes me think it might be perhaps a little more rare.

I forgot who made it, I don't have the original release anymore, I just have a rescued bountyhunter.u from my old system tree.

It seems like it was going to come with special types of maps too. It has a new playerclass which is the bountyhunter and you can't pick up normal weapons, there is a "shop" functionality too, but you have specific weapons upgrades that only work on you.

Its kind of like the xmen tc for quake in that your character just has a glove/special hand that changes acording to the weapon you select, so everything is practically an ammo for the weapon. Unlike xmen though you have a wrist mounted device sort of like predator or skaarj and the weapons are blade, darts, flamethrower, rockets and railgun. It uses partially the razorammo skin.

The filedate is from 2007 but I am not sure if that's the true preserved date. Anyone encountered this mod and know who made this or the actual release wherever it is?

It is remarkable in a way, several of the items have new binding, there's an x-ray item even that lays over a filter and adds a "shieldbelt" like layer to pawns on your display, to simulate a skeleton. There is a harpoon item that you can use to pull enemies closer to you as well...none of the weapons have altfire though and altfire is preserved to buy more ammo or something.

The currency you use and receive for bounties is in yen, so I suspect a japanese person could have made this. Otherwise it is a mystery to me now and I cannot recall how I got it originally.

So yea with this mod you can feel like the "Predator" except you are still human or maybe android. All the weapons can be upgraded once, like flamethrower gains more speed/strength and also the flames start bouncing off walls slightly.

Question is again, who made this? There are new models so it was someone with some real skill even if they are using bits of existing models.

So....???

wall jumping diagonally no longer gives you greater control over direction than non-diagonally
HUD should never be reset to Unreal HUD when changing levels?

 - COMPATIBILITY -

This mod was made with Unreal Gold. If you have an older version of
Unreal than 226, the mod likely won't work. Also, Return to Na Pali
is not yet supported.

Note that once you start a new game, your player class will be set to
the Bounty Hunter player class. If you start a botmatch without first
changing your class back to a normal Unreal class with the Player Setup
menu, weird things will happen. :)

Multiplayer is also not supported.

 - INSTALLATION -

1. Rename Vortex2.unr in the Maps folder in your Unreal directory
to back it up (e.g., Vortex2_BACKUP.unr). Bounty Hunter replaces
   this file.
2. Extract the contents of this zip file to your Unreal directory.
Make sure your unzipper is set to maintain the folder structure
   when unzipping.
3. Start Unreal, set up the keybinds (details below), and start a new
   Unreal game.

 - UNINSTALLATION -

1. Delete Vortex2.unr from Unreal\Maps.
2. Rename your backed up copy of Vortex2.unr.
3. Delete BountyHunter.u from Unreal\System.

 - KEYBINDS/CONSOLE COMMANDS -

These commands can be bound to keys in the console via "set input."
e.g.
	set input f flashlight

Buy
Opens the buy menu. The buy menu can be with next/previous weapon.
Fire confirms a selection. Alternatively, you can use the number keys
  to select menu items.

ActivateTranslator
Bound to F2 by default, activates your translator just like in Unreal.
You start out with this utility.

Disruptor
Fires a blue bolt of energy that damages crates, weak walls, etc. You
  start out with this utility.

Flashlight
Turns your flashlight on/off if you've bought one.

Harpoon
Fires your harpoon if you've bought one. Pressing the key a second time
  will disengage the harpoon early.

Nuke
Engages nuclear missile launch countdown. Press again before launch to
  cancel the countdown.

Cloak
  Toggles optical camouflage.

LightAmp
Toggles the light amplification visor upgrade on/off if you've bought one.

XRay
Toggles the x-ray visor upgrade if you've bought one.

Zoom
Progresses to the next zoomstop if you've bought the zoom visor upgrade.
Returns to 1x magnification when at the max zoom level.

ShowScores
This is Unreal's multiplayer scores keybind. In Bounty Hunter, this
toggles the display of a few statistics of your progress.

QuickSave
QuickLoad
These are in normal Unreal, but I didn't know about them until I saw them
in the player code. They do what you'd expect, but quicksaves don't seem
to appear on the load menu, so you'll have to use QuickLoad.

Brighten
By default, Bounty Hunter renders a screen overlay that brightens the
game without washing out the colors as much as the normal brightness
slider. You'll probably want to knock your brightness down a notch to
get your brightness about where it was before. If you don't like how
this feature looks, you can turn it off with this keybind. You'll have
to do this every time you start a new game.

GLCam
The homing cam that appears on your visor while using the upgraded
rockets doesn't work properly in OpenGL. Use this console command to
disable the homing cam. You'll have to do this every time you start a
  new game.

 - PLAYING BOUNTY HUNTER -

Before playing make sure you look through the keybind/console command section above.
Besides having important commands for using your equipment, there are a couple of
options that can be toggled with console commands that you should be aware of.

  Equipment

The first thing you'll want to do is look through the buy menu and get yourself
some equipment. Except for the health, the stuff lying around the levels can't
be used. The only way to get equipment is by purchasing it. The only way to make
money is by collecting bounties. So pick a weapon or two and get hunting.

By default, weapons that require ammo are set to buy it automatically. Pressing
secondary fire will open a small menu for purchasing ammo in advance. Next/previous
weapon can be used to decrease/increase the amount of ammo to buy. Scrolling
below the minimum amount will allow you to toggle auto-buying. Press fire to confirm
your choice.

  Making Money

Every enemy is worth a different amount of money. If you have a targeting
computer, the bounty for an enemy will appear when aiming at it. The tougher the
enemy, the more it's worth.

In addition to making money for collecting bounties, your notoriety will also
increase. As your notoriety increases, enemies will fetch higher bounties.
You can check your notoriety and associated rank with the ShowScores keybind.

 - A NOTE TO MAPPERS -

If you'd like to create or adapt a mission pack for Bounty Hunter, all you need
to do is place a BH_Enforcer in the first level. What this actor does is forces
the player to use the Bounty Hunter player class.

If there are any other features you'd like for fine-tuning Bounty Hunter for your
mission (e.g., starting cash, how fast your notoriety increases, or whatever),
feel free to contact me and we can discuss extending the mod's flexibility. :)

That seems to be it, but a newer version than I have seemingly. Also it does work outside of unrealgold but if you pop up a classic menu as opposed to umenu, it freezes up the game.

Where is this version avaiable at?

Thanks for sharing, I wonder where it was originally hosted though. The version I have doesn't have the nuke, cloaking device and other stuff mentioned.

Except, this of course lacks his renamed vortex2 map, which I don't know anymore how different was.
