Is there a list

Post by Leo T_C_K »

Is there a list of what certain Unreal version was released at what date? There are obviously certain patches missing like 213 to 215 which had readmes that were found in some subsequent releases. But...there are also certain CD releases like one of them must be 210 as I found out and another either 211 or 212 but which? Is there a modern equivalent of tim's log in documentation? hello? Why is this so poorly documented now and why are there just missing pages from the official websites, that weren't captured by the wayback machine? And acording to Epic's technical site there were several exclusive OEM versions ranging from 209 to 223...

they didn't list them individually but see, even now we don't have everything that was out there recorded even! How do we keep track? And the s3 version that came with the s3 demo maps, nobody seems to have the full version now which had newed.exe with it as the only oem release I am aware of...

please just...can someone put an end to this mess? remember how there was even an earlier subversion of 225 that i discovered?

Tried to do my best here.

https://unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Unreal_( ... ease_Notes

The page was becoming larger, so the OldU patches are in a separate page (and I was considering to give v227j its own page too...)

If there's something wrong, feel free to edit and correct the wrong data.

Guys, this is even worse than I thought. It turns out many of the Unreal CDs out there made after 209...they say 205 during the firstrun. Even the bloody 209 patch gives that. There's no way to tell a real version until someone comes with a up to date equivalent of tim's log...

Tim!! How could you be so sloppy during 1998??

That is from very early 1997 at least that save is. That describes Unreal in the versions that are currently lost but pre-release. Yea at some point they had (later than this) almost complete version acording to the unreal bible only to scrap it altogether and reboot it. RIP the never seen original Impaler and the early working Krall in (mostly) native code and so.

Here for example it mentions an early ingame menu. None of the betas/alphas demos we have recovered feature that. Got thrown away with the 1997 reboot after "test audiences" were displeased with the game. The only builds from this "unbible" period are basically 0.83 and 0.84a from late 1996 and they just have context menus not real ingame menus. The first time an ingame menu returned was like somewhere early 1998 (don't forget the leaked big beta is based on engine version from december 1997 so it lacks the menu and stuff).
