OldUnreal takes over maintenance of the Unreal Tournament code base

UT now belongs to the "old" Unreal as well. Supporting it for OpenGL and Sound its time to put up a board now.

Probably, we need to wait for the next beta built of the patch, but that just my thoughts.

Hey folks, respect for all the effort. Was wondering if I could try the patch? I havent been able to play UT because of stuttering since I upgraded to win10 and that was 4-5 years ago? Quarantine times and tried it again, it is playable but I am very eager to try the mouse input!

Hello!

Long time fan, really appreciate the work folks are doing to bring this back - thank you, thank you, thank you.

Would very much appreciate access to the beta - for both local and LAN testing (mac (client) + linux servers).

Cheers,
TDM

Hi, I'm going to be fair. I just joined because I really really like to try out UT on osx (Catalina) and I ended up my search here asking for a patch.

Hello!

It's fantastic news that after 20 yrs Sweeney finally granted his highest permission so good ppl can promote his work in their own time!!

So it this still on track? Any ETA like a week, a month, or an year?
I'm only interested in a Linux build and ofc willing to test the hell out of it (well at least to give it a go  ;)). Hurray to finally the end of fiddling with a 20 year old binary! :D

Cos even tho I know I don't need yet more UT hours under my belt than I already have, but this is still just too awesome - and I'm willing to donate (for real) IF this is being actually worked on...

Yes, we have several people working on this daily and 50-100 people beta testing our patches. The next beta builds will _probably_ be available some time next week, at which point I'll also invite the next batch of people to the beta tester group. If you want to donate, then please use the paypal donation button in the menu on the left side of this web page. Thanks!

Not sure what bugs exactly you guys have in mind to workaround, thought I'd compile a list of some I consider essential to have in a new shiny source port for Linux
Probably you already know about these, so just in case...
1) Ancient libstdc++ compiled into the binary conflicts with modern Mesa https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108933 which effectively prevents launching as is
2) Crazy game speed in some cases - the engine core seems to try to spew out new frames as if from the Minigun. The effect varies, sometimes its slow like in treacle. Could be connected to power management, especially for some AMD CPUs. Probably a combination of factors.
3) ALSA or even Pulseaudio support instead of OSS
4) SDL2 would be nice - it behaves better for the user than the old one.
5) Last but not the least a state of the art OpenGL renderer))

Absolutely amazing news!
I've been playing Unreal Tournament GOTY since it first came out in 1999. You ever need an extra beta tester please don't hesitate in including me.
Thank you so much to all involved, happy fragging.
