It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!

HighRes Texture mirror ptmc.no-ip.org expires - new addresses (unrealtexture.com needs update)
PUBLIC NOTICE
I've been silently running a public mirror server for DieHard's Unreal Texture project several years now at http://ptmc.no-ip.org/s3tc/S3TC and while it is NOT a very fast server and even has a few dropouts a year, it is free of charge, and while I am mostly in the background and not doing much in public for Unreal these days, that doesn't mean I don't care - on the contrary. I want to keep this little contribution up for as long as I can.
A few months back, however, I ran into a problem, 2 actually, and I am intent on fixing them both at the same time. I can no longer use the no-ip service as they are becoming very bothersome and unusable unless you start paying for their service, and I need to close port 80 as well since the amount of automated attack scripts going rampage at that port is just ridiculous.
I have informed DieHard already months back that I need to do this and knowing well his situation I have given him all the possible time I could to let him update all links on www.unrealtexture.com to reflect an already in place replacement, and he had promised me he'd get it done this month, but so far it hasn't happened. Okay this month still has a week left but after my last chat with him I have again not heard a peep in 3 weeks so if I'm not counting on that to happen in the remaining time, please don't hold that against me.
The server will remain available and online as long I can have it so, but the address WILL EXPIRE AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. This was an enormously long time in the making, and now I am running out of time, the change has to be made, with the links on www.unrealtexture.com being corrected or not.
The server can be BROWSED, so anybody who wants to look for a file on it can do so using either of these addresses:
http://ptmc.spdns.org:30080/s3tc/S3TC
or
http://ptmc.linkpc.net:30080/s3tc/S3TC
The no-ip address at port 80 points to exactly the same machine, but at the end of this month that will be done with.
If someone other than DieHard himself has access to the UnrealTexture page and could do the appropriate maintenance, it would be appreciated. If not... there is nothing I can do to delay this further.
Yours truly,
~Wolf

Will the direct / in-site downloads at UnrealTexture keep working? That is the most important.
For the dynmaic DNS thingie: I went through the same when DynDNS went payment-only. (I lost my hyper.dnsalias.net domain) I now switched to FreeDNS with a paid .tk domain and it seems to be very reliable so far.

UnrealTexture lists 4 mirrors. Of course direct / in-site downloads to "my" mirror will stop working unless the links are updated (otherwise what point would my post have been...).Will the direct / in-site downloads at UnrealTexture keep working? That is the most important.
I have picked my "replacement" DNS carefully. "SPDNS" is run by a German security firm with a rather strict code of conduct, I have confidence in its continued existence in its current form.

Well, at least the unrealtexture.com site (with in-site downloads) will keep working then. I don't know if DieHard ever gave someone else access to his webhost / FTP server.

Re: HighRes Texture mirror ptmc.no-ip.org expires - new addresses (unrealtexture.com needs update)
Can I suggest that we think about including magnet links (like mapraider) and/or metalinks ?
Both can refer to a file on multiple networks and hosts in 1 click.
Both offer redundancy and protection against bad downloads.
Both offer multi-threaded downloading so no one server gets a pounding.
Metalinks can include country strings, so downloaders can favour a closer mirror automatically.
Torrents are obviously an option but are always at risk due to the need for active seeders and trackers that are not blocked.
Before my new PC fried I was working on providing all the prepared links for anyone to use.
I only got as far as posting torrents for the low end files

I will get back to it soon and also upload the metalinks (which I now need to change)

Re: HighRes Texture mirror ptmc.no-ip.org expires - new addresses (unrealtexture.com needs update)
In the last couple of months my mirror has been down, and I was unable to attend the issue due to me being hospitalized.
I have replaced the router now which hopefully handles the steady stream of T-Com network misfires better and hopefully no longer hangs up. The internal network has been adjusted accordingly and the server is back on.

you can go to no-ip.org and reactivate it and after that you re set it in your pc with DUC
