UnrealEd does not start on older versions of Unreal

Post by SMaster2341 »

I can not run the UnrealEd version below 2.0. When I try to open the Unreal version of the game 226 final or lower, the system gives me this error:"Wrong version of run-time DLL." I have OS Windows 10 Home x64 v1803. My friend has the same problem. He's has OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1. Previously, everything worked. Please tell me how to fix this problem. :(

Hello

Try this one here:

https://www.oldunreal.com/patch/officia ... EdFix4.exe

With this fix I was always able to run the Unreal Editor in previous versions.
Even the Editor of the release version from 1998 runs with Windows 10.

If you're installing Unreal_222r (the classic retail version) then there's no option to install the editor, so the best thing to do is install the game, patch it to 225F (just the patch), and then use the UnrealEdFix4. Make sure that's the only editor installed.

If you're installing Unreal_226b (the original Gold version, the one I have) then make sure you DO NOT install the editor during the first initial install of the game. Weblinks patch it if you want, even though its fix is for a 'master server' that's no longer active. Now you can get the editor by using UnrealEdFix4. Just change the install directory from C:\Unreal to C:\UnrealGold. You'll have to make you're own shortcut, but it should work fine.

At least it does for me. I hope this helps.

One more thing. If you're using Gold 226b to make maps, make sure you use a converter on your finished map. It will make it so the map can be played by other versions of Unreal, and not just Gold. Or you can use a hex editor to do this too. The converter is quicker.

Just in case you're using Gold.
