How to get the name of the texture for the poly currently selected?

Post by temp890 »

In UnrealEd1 clicking parts of the map will highlight segments with a blue overlay. Select Matching Texture will get polys using the same material but how do I view the name of the texture currently applied to it? Would save me having to manually go through textures and it can be a chore when you have 7 different rock textures.

You can only do that with ued2 or a custom editor. Or examining t3d files. It's basically impossible to do with classic ued. In UED2 right clicking on it and bringing properties is just enough.

Unless UEd 1.0 works very differently from its younger brothers:

Select the surface, CTRL+C
Open Notepad
CTRL+V

You'll get something like

Code: Select all

Begin Map
Begin Surface
   TEXTURE=BarrensArchitecture-epic.Base.bas-lp-floortile2
   BASE      +00000.000000,+00000.000000,+00000.000000
   TEXTUREU  -00002.000000,+00000.000000,+00000.000000
   TEXTUREV  +00000.000000,-00002.000000,-00000.000000
   NORMAL    +00000.000000,+00000.000000,+00001.000000
   POLYFLAGS=33554432
End Surface
End Map
With "TEXTURE=BarrensArchitecture-epic.Base.bas-lp-floortile2" as your texture in the usual format.
You must construct additional pylons.

Yes, i get the same empty text.

I could dig through the t3d text one poly at a time but I'm hoping for a time saver.

Well it can be more easy just select the item the go to tab "edit" and clic copy then paste it into your text Editor and you get this for example

Begin Map
Begin Actor Class=lever Name=lever13
ReTriggerDelay=9.500000
bRenderedLastFrame=True
Level=LevelInfo'MyLevel.LevelInfo0'
Tag=lever
Event=ToDBrdg

End Map

Or this from a brush hehe

By the way, you can also use Alt+Left/Right click to quickly set/get the texture.

But afaik that won't get you the name necessarily, or does it?

...Am I wrong, or does the surface properties window not display the texture name? I don't really map or anything, but I remember that when I tried.

Starting with UEd 2.0, yes. In the first version, it only says "Surface properties (X selected)".
You must construct additional pylons.

No, but you can then press "Use" in some random texture property and read the name from there.

Oh. That's clever. Really. Never would have thought of that.
