Question involving Unreal's files
Mar 1st, 2019 at 4:27pm
Print Post
Why was UnrealI split into 2 .u files in a patch? I never understood this, as it results in duplication of some things. They also moved settings out of Unreal.ini into User.ini and UnrealEd.ini. Most of the games I was playing when Unreal was still fairly new tried to bundle game assets into as few files as possible.

"unrealshare" is used for the demo version, presumably "share" is shareware

No shareware version of Unreal existed though. If they had gone to that much trouble to sort out things into what was needed for such a release, it seems odd that they never got around to it.

never looked but my understanding is it has like 1 multioplayer map and a few of the sp levels.
althought i wouldnt exactly call it shareware is it seems to require a cd check?? lol

it came bundled on a CD with sound cards, iirc. that's probably what the CD check was for, as stupid as that is since it's just a demo and i dont think patches would "upgrade" it to full version
