Way back in 2010: https://youtu.be/y-sRxXyHVIY
Fresh from the oven, along with Nyleve as an example map.

In words, it's a skybox that moves relative to the player's location in the map.

(I should've probably picked the Sunspire as an example map but oh well)

I'm a huge fan of your ideas dude but you should show a better example. I watched this and I just don't understand what I should be seeing.

I'd be very interested in this if you are hip to sharing. I'd like to have a version that scales dependent on distance to the fake backdrop and overall location in the map. I've been thinking of a desert island hub map to replace the one I use now and I'd be very interested in using something like this in it.

I don't want to give the end away
but we're all going to die one day

I was reminded of this yesterday and I had 30 minutes to make it, so I rushed things, hehe. It's best to check this while ghosting and/or slomo 2, the skybox would move along with the map instead of staying static. I restricted the Z-axis movement on this one but that's optional.
I'd imagine this would look better in a map like Skytown where the floating islands in the skybox would move along as you move, however there's the issue of stars and suns/moons moving as well. I tried combining a moving and static skyzone but to no avail. Setting the movemodifier on it to something really small and making the skybox bigger with the sun farther away would minimize the effect enough to not notice.
I'll make a proper representation once I get back home from work.
