Emitters vs Animated Sprites

Hello Smiley

I like to know which of both is faster.

A Emitter with 15 Particles which constantly respawns in a fast rate and a texture size of 256 x 256

Or an looping animated sprite with 32 Fames and a texture size of 256 x 256?

I'm asking this question because I like to change some of my Weapon and Projectile emitters to animated sprite effects.

I am pretty sure that the animated sprite is much much faster, since all that you're doing is changing the texture, which is just a pointer internally, regardless of the engine even (be it Unreal Engine, Unity, whatever, they generally work all in a similar fashion).

No matter how efficient the emitter is, "respawning", even with recycling, will have a much bigger overhead than just changing the reference texture over time, incomparably so I would say.

Disclaimer: this is a U227 question, and I barely played with U227 myself, just answering because this is generally engine-independent, and I assume the same is true for U227 regardless of how it does things.

I think Ferali is right here, however, never hurts to put a shitload of each into a map and benchmark it. Such tests sometimes produce unexpected results and give a chance to optimize.
