The Frequency Illusion (Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon)

Have you ever seen the same number/phrase/thing over and over? You may be a victim of the frequency illusion.

https://psmag.com/there-s-a-name-for-that-the-baader-meinhof-phenomenon-e5bf3ea8
7cd2

For myself though, I see the numbers "227" all the time and to a much lesser extent "225", though oddly "226" is generally not included which is odd to me, since those are all "significant" numbers to me.

oddly enough, a co-worker without anyone telling him, mentioned that his "girlfriend sees the number 27 almost every day... well, more specifically, 227."

This is slightly different than the frequency illusion in that these patterns are not new information, but information I've known for quite some time, and only relatively recently have become more pronounced, which to memory is when I moved to san diego almost 3 years now.

Yep. As you know I also experience this phenomena and while I'd like to completely believe it's more than just occurrence, there's a good chance it's just psychological (though that wouldn't necessarily explain several other odd occurrences like the one with HeWiTt that you cite). Perhaps this is all part of the Illusion of Choice...

edit: You're insane. :|

Yes I got it once...with UNI LEVER.

UNILEVER UNILEVER UNILEVER UINILEVER! EVERYWHERE UNILEVER!

Oh! it even appears in the picie you linked to.

And then you get to see Uni appearing everywhere:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uni

goes even to mythology
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uni_(mythology)

In so many words and meanings. And....it's kinda like number 23 then.

...

EDIT: Also...XMP

A close friend of mine also notes every appearance in his life of one specific number I can't remember. It seems to be a somewhat common illusion, I remember a movie somehow based on this.

Number 23

Or this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_(film)
But that doesn't seem to be central to the plot.

Yep, that's the one. Smiley
Although it turns out my friend is obsessed with 37 too. Hum.

EDIT: And why is that syndrom named after the Red Army Fraction? Cheesy

It was explained in one of the linked posts why. Because someone kept mentioning that in the person who first observed the effect....
