I'm not sure how hard this would be to fix but, for those of us that don't install flash and are comfortable with their browsers HTML5 support, the embedding of YouTube videos in the forum needs to be switched from Flash embeds to HTML5 embeds.

I don't know the details of switching it away however, you'd have to look at the latest embed code from YouTube\Google to see the HTML5 version.

Nobody likes Flash.

I hate it when people ask me what my favorite game is. Just try to explain you're not talking about Unreal Tournament Roll Eyes.

You can watch Flash without installing Flash

Easy, use HTML5 or a different player like VLC or "Media Player Classic - BE", which both recognise Youtube links.
Use Greasemonkey, Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey to install user scripts to take over.

I always use Flash/mp4 because my GFX card does not HW decode WebM, but I never watch the way sites want me to.

I rather not install hacks when it's really a forum issue. UnrealSP spawns the appropriate HTML5 elements when people embed video links.

Plus the only time I ever watch Youtube from the command line is to anonymously bypass age checks.

It's a framework for applying those.

Actually I offered something to improve the whole internet, not this forum.
Use of this forum would be part of that.
I also use the "ExtendTube" extension, and that overrides whatever sites are telling my browser, so youtube has the features I want, not what they give me.

As an Opera user I had native access to UserScripts (and UserCSS) for many years before "whatever-monkeys" simply added a management interface.
All Greasemonkey is, is a GUI to manage "site hacks".
My view of the net includes many integrated options to download or view in an alternative player.
If you did a full VLC install you also have the browser component.
(Who said anything about command line ? Not me).

I always watch youtube, Vimeo, Twitch, Twit, BBC via a player that has no ads, lets me zoom in and out, variable speed slo-motion, frame-step forward/backwards. change aspect ratio, and decode Dolby encoded surround sound.
This is most useful watching game videos such as FrankieOn1080p, where timing and tactics are discussed.

These days extensions in browsers are jscript in a container (which need to be unpacked to inspect if you do not trust).
I prefer Userscripts because you are forced to see the content before you install.
You can also quickly modify them to fix or improve.
If you are worried about "hacks", which method seems most sensible to you ?

The VLC addon for Firefox doesn't work anymore for me ever since a update came along and probably changed something that broke compatibility.

So I can't use that within Firefox. If I want to use VLC to watch a youtube video I have to use livestreamer.
